I ran across this blog site after "googling" South Texas College of Law, so I figured I would give it a try. I am from California, and graduate from Berkeley this May. I have been accepted to STCL and am trying to do my "research" on it. I apologize if I am chiming into an already established forum, but if you have any insight that can help me form a more solid idea of Houston, the South Texas campus, the people, etc...I would greatly appreciate it. I have submitted my first seat deposit, but am still waiting on a few other schools. Thanks!
Greetings, fellow Berkeley alum
First off, if you're going to seriously consider STCL, you need to be set on practicing in Texas (Houston especially). STCL is well-regarded in Texas but an STCL degree unfortunately does not travel well out-of-state. The benefits of practicing in Texas are many, however -- large legal markets that are uniquely insular (Texas firms like to hire Texas grads), great cost of living, down-to-earth southern hospitality and more. For more of my impressions, read the following thread:http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=23285&p=427327&hilit=south+texas#p427327
I also suggest running searches here and on top-law-schools.com for more information on STCL, Houston and the idiosyncracies of the Texas market.

Congrats, tiredofwaiting! That's fantastic! And yes, I will be headed to STCL.

Seriously, botbot. Tulane needs to give you a living stipend for your efforts. Even though I decided on another school, you helped make my decision-making process THAT much more agonizing!! Of course the rest of you current Tulane Law students have been great also

Woow, UH is ridiculous this cycle.
Any news, tiredofwaiting?
Best of luck to y'all with UH. I just withdrew.
P.S. If anyone's looking for roommates, join our Facebook group: "STCL Class of 2011." There are a couple of folks needing roommates there.

Bella summed it up well. It was really similar to the Open House. I hoped for more informational sessions, maybe a financial aid and/or Career Services program. But ahh well. Y'all didn't miss much!
I'm about to post pictures of the facilities on the Facebook group page for all those interested.

Not a dumb question at all. Apologies for the nerdy forum-speak! ASW = Accepted Students Weekend, although ASD (Accepted Students Day) was probably the correct term.
Haha, Samantha is usually very nice, but I don't think I ever asked her specifically for my own status; I'd ask when ED applicants in general would be hearing back since it they seemed to keep pushing the date forward.
Anyways, I sent the email to the general admissions email (firstname.lastname@example.org
or whatever it is), and Kelly Polk responded a day or two later. I really do hope you hear something soon. How long are you willing to wait UH out seeing as Baylor's orientation is creeping up?!

. When I observed a class, I don't think I saw a single person without a laptop.

Brain Age - any word from UH on your part. Status checker updated yesterday and I am still "in review". Baylor sent me an email on Thurs. saying they are mailing my registration packet which is due by April 18th. UH is cutting the timeline way too short!!
Hey there. WL'ed at UH.
. And it took them long enough to make their decision! I applied in late October, went "in review" in December, and got a decision in early March. Believe me, I feel your pain. I just got the same email from Dean Chollett but withdrew shortly after.
My suggestion to you is to call AND email them about your situation. A week or two before I received a decision, an admissions representative emailed me back to tell me that I'd be receiving a letter soon. Also, as suggested by my UH tour guide, give Lisa Buentello (sp?) a call and see if you can attend the ASW tomorrow (yes, it's tomorrow -- *waves angry fist*).
Anyways, I'm all but decided to remove myself from the UH WL and attend STCL. Best of luck to you!

I'll be busy looking for and moving into a new place and reading the standard 0L prep material: Getting to Maybe, Planet Law School 2, Law School Confidential, etc. I'm going to start tapering off my writing assignments as the summer progresses and hopefully taking a short vacay to Padre and/or NOLA. I need to go new laptop hunting too.
