Hi Everyone! Congrats and Welcome to those of you who have decided to come to HLS!!!
If anyone has any questions for a current 1L, feel free to send me a message or post here. This board was very helpful for me when making decisions last year.

I think you have excellent prospects-- you and I have almost identical backgrounds/ experience/ scores (1 point off on LSAT), non-URM, volunteer with children, etc.
I got into Penn, Cornell, Boalt, and of course, Harvard.
HOWEVER-- i would tell you to be very very prepared to sit on waitlists.... I think I was on every waitlist within the top ten at one point, but then come April, the acceptances flooded in. Just be patient.

I know people have said so a couple times already, but just to restate.... all potential admits have the phone interview-- its definitely a requirement.
AND We are on fall break this week, so I decided to look on this site and see where everyone is in the application process-- just wanted to tell people that you should NOT be freaking out this early on. I didnt make a final decision until April last year, and thats 6 months from now... chances are, a lot of you won't either- until then, just relax.
Also, since we're on break this week, I'd love to answer any questions anyone has about HLS: the classes, the people, etc. Just send a message

just to provide some insight-- there has been a GREAT deal of talk on this in the last couple of days, and we are having a meeting this thursday, a town hall of sorts, to talk about the pros/cons of also applying it to current 1L's before we get our first semester grades.
Previously, most professors graded on a number scale, and converted that number into a letter grade based on the curve. Now, it will be the same in terms of the base grade, but the raw number score will be converted into larger categories-- honors, pass, low pass and fail. I've spoken with several of my professors, and most are for the new system- they think it will reduce the focus on exams/grades-- I personally am VERY happy about the new system-- if any of you have questions going forward, don't hesitate to ask.

I too had an alumni interview last year, around October. I sent a resume ahead of time, and she asked me some specific questions, but nothing trivial- it seemed like she really wanted to get a good feel for "why law" and "why northwestern." Although, I walked out feeling very good about it, and then got deferred until May... I thought it might have had to do with my choice of schools that I applied to- she asked where I had applied, and why. I probably sounded like I preferred the NE... based on almost all of my other selections.
-- long story short, dont be nervous, its a nice conversation.

I did the same thing, decided to to accept from the waitlist and withdrew my application-- when i called on friday to ask for more time, they said this is still early in the process, so take another week... i think they are just beginning to evaluate apps from the waitlist again.
