Incoming 1Ls / Re: Windows Vista - opinions

Vista may take a few more seconds to wake up, but it seems to lose just about no power whatsoever during sleep mode. When I had XP it would lose power while hibernating - not with vista. I also love that you can choose to do things like power down your dvd drive while not using it to conserve battery life.

Is this serial?

Who has it? How's it working? Are you happy with it? First hand knowledge only please.

I personally have had it for 2 weeks and think it's alright. No problems so far, although it does take a little longer to boot up than I had hoped. I'm running 2.26 core 2 duo with 2 gb of ram.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Texas Tech 2011

I'm a rising 3L at Tech. If anyone has questions about Lubbock, where to live, your classes or professors, shoot me a message on here. If I can't get back to you sooner, I'll respond on the weekends. Congrats to all of you who made it in. This was an especially difficult year to get in.

How does tech place in Dallas? I know they do better than they get credit for. If you had to guess, how many would you say get biglaw or place well in the DFW area?

Please, for the love of god, don't get a pinstripe suit if you are only getting one.

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Prep Courses
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:31:15 AM »
I took Kaplan's course. My experience was great; but it all depends on the teacher you get. My was incredible, but there are many teachers that just aren't that good. You should take a sample class with the teacher you would have and see if he impresses you.

Also, the course is structured very well. I had class twice a week, with hw and supplemental materials to work on between classes. The walk you through every type of question, which is good and bad (very slow sometimes). They have three books, other than your class book, that helped me out a ton. One organizes all the questions by type and difficulty, and you can work through them one by one, concentrating on you weaknesses. Of the other two, one has just full sections an the other is just full-lenth tests.

I'm not trying to endorse Kaplan because I'm sure you'll get a similar experience with powerscore or testmasters. I'm just saying you should take any course.

Lastly - Kaplan has a bad rap, most people who trash them haven't had any direct experience and are just contributing to groupthink.

You only get one. Inspire me.
