Where should I go next fall? / NYU or Georgetown w/ $
« on: April 18, 2008, 10:22:25 AM »
Help!  My considerations are:

1.  Some money from Gtown vs. no money from NYU
2.  I've lived in NYC for a long time and I love it, but would be up for trying somewhere new
3.  I want to study international law
4.  I might want to get a joint degree in international affairs

Is this aid PDF on the admitted students site or is it being emailed out?

I got an email with a link to the financial aid website.  Where they proceeded to tell me I got nothing in grant aid.  Now seriously considering Georgetown if they give me any money at all.

Law School Applications / No word from Harvard?
« on: April 03, 2008, 03:02:53 PM »
Coming up on 4 months since I went complete.  I spoke with someone in the admissions office and they said they would make a decision by "late spring" which to them means May or June.  Does anyone else find this strange (that one could find out they are waitlisted in June)?  Is anyone else in this situation?  I haven't heard anything - no emails, calls, etc.  What does it all mean??

I'm still pending at Stanford and Yale - I went complete at both schools in early November. That's over 4 months ago!

And the worst part is I'll probably end up getting rejected at both. :-\

I was in the same situation with Harvard and Yale...but no fear, Yale finally came through with their (very concise) rejection letter today.  Hope you have more luck than I've had!

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: NYU ASW
« on: March 11, 2008, 04:02:39 PM »
I was at the NYU day, but not the Columbia one (waitlist city).  Having come from Columbia undergrad I was a bit skeptical about NYU in general, despite rankings and the general consensus that it is an amazing school.  I came away from the ASW knowing that I'll be happy there.  Professors were amazing, including a discussion on international law with a couple of their top profs (Kingsbury, Alston) that got me pumped to take their classes.  Panel discussion with Marty Lipton, the managing partner at Cravath, senior partner at Simpson, etc. -  very intimidating group of alumni but a really cool insider's take on current issues in corporate governance.  Overall, people seemed down to earth and normal, which is a big factor for me.  Only downside - very long day (8:30 to 6 with no breaks).

Law School Applications / Re: Best type of sandwich?
« on: February 28, 2008, 06:39:28 PM »
now now, there's no sense in adhering to the strict but ultimately arbitrary ranking of sandwiches going on here.  maybe comparing sandwich #25 (roast beef and cheddar) to sandwich #3 (turkey, apple and brie) makes sense, but you can't possibly distinguish #3 with #2 (chicken cutlet with melted swiss) in any meaningful way.  it makes more sense to talk about general groupings of sandwiches, between which it's really a personal decision.

I would take it seriously.  When I arrived at college my first day, the only record of me they had was that I had sent them an email saying I was going to withdraw.  I most definitely had not done that.  So we had to scramble to get me reinstated (funny, though, they were cashing our monstrous tuition checks already)...meaning housing, classes, everything.  They traced the email to some random account in bumfuck NJ.  I suspect it was someone I know but I have no proof.  My advice is contact the schools and just give them a heads up - I'm sure it's not the first time they've encountered bull like this and it's better to be safe.
