General Board / Changes in Emmanuel editions
« on: September 24, 2008, 01:35:14 PM »
I've been told by a few people that the Emmanuel for Con Law is a pretty good supplement, but I'm not ready to spring for a new edition. I've found a few older editions on Amazon, but I'm wondering how much they change from year to year. Anybody have any insight?

Socratic Method / Re: When You DON'T Do Your Reading

I took a law survey class during my undergrad, which was taught by actual law professors from our school. They informed us that their policy is to leave a note on the professors podium/desk before class informing them that you were unprepared.

Signed and dated, this would give you a freebie at least twice.

How about: On September 2nd, 2005, at the age of 19, I was cited at a residence as a minor in possession of alcohol by the Police Department of Vermillion, South Dakota.

and

"In regards to my suspended sentence, I have remained free of any alcohol violations and will continue to do so in the future."

Thanks for the help jnb.

Better on both counts.

Wanna go get a drink?  j/k ;)

I'm in Holland now and if I'd been here the whole time the 16 year old drinking age would have saved me! Thanks for the help.

Personal Statement / I need final readers!

Edit: Final draft, before final draft.

It is really now a question of whether or not to cut the first three paragraphs or keep them. Is effective and personable writing worth pushing the length?

Addendum for Criminal Charges

On September 2nd, 2005, at the age of 19, I received a citation as a minor in possession of alcohol by the Police Department of Vermillion, South Dakota. During the incident my recorded blood alcohol content was .01 after receiving a breathalyzer. I later appeared at the clerk of courts to plead guilty to the charges. I received a fine and had my license revoked for the minimum sentence of thirty days.

On August 18th, 2006, at the age of 20, I received a citation as a minor in possession of alcohol by the Police Department of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During the incident my recorded blood alcohol content was .08 after receiving a breathalyzer. I appeared at an appointed court date the following month and plead guilty to the charge. I received a fine, was required to pay court fees, and my license was revoked for the minimum sentence of sixty days. For this incident I also received a suspended jail sentence of ten days for any future alcohol violations through my twenty-second birthday.

In regards to both of these alcohol related incidents I have accepted full responsibility for my actions. Furthermore, both of these incidents occurred at homes receiving noise violations and under no circumstances was a motor vehicle involved. In regards to my suspended sentence, I have remained free of any alcohol violations since my last court appearance.

Bueno?

Law School Applications / Re: Criminal addendum - How specific on dates?
« on: November 29, 2007, 10:58:41 AM »
So it is not essential that I have the specific date for applications, but I will need it in the future? If that is the case, for the sake of saving any more time waiting to go complete, I will just go with what I have.

And I wish I could say I was too wasted, but a BAC of .01 and .08 really aren't anything to brag about  ;)

Law School Applications / Criminal addendum - How specific on dates?
« on: November 29, 2007, 09:03:13 AM »
I only have two misdemeanors to report, both being a minor in consumption of alcohol. For my second one I know the exact date: Aug. 18th, 2006. However, for the second one, I can only pinpoint it at sometime in early September of 2005. How specific do I need to be for such a small infraction?

The first time I plead guilty and paid my fine and the second I had to appear in court so I'm not sure if a court date needs to be mentioned, because both times it was just a fine.

Thanks for the help guys!

I had mine mailed USPS nine days ago now. This is damn frustrating!
