Hey Thans,

You should try Barnes and Noble online.  They have virtually all the law books at or below the bookstore price and if you have a Readers Advantage card you save an additional 5% AND NO TAX!  Plus anything over 25 or 50 bucks is free shipping.

Jag,

The $590 was just the required materials on the shelves at St. Mary's.  It was mostly casebooks and codebooks, but it was everything required four Section C.  Some of the books were the same as other sections, but I don't remember which ones (books or sections).  The online Barnes and Noble price difference of $70 included all but four books I needed and those were relatively inexpensive (34.50 and lower).

I priced books on campus yesterday and looks like the whole deal is about $590 before tax.  But I also priced them online and if you have a Barnes and Noble Readers Advantage card you can save about $70 bucks and they do free shipping for orders over a certain amount.  Thought you guys might like the info...

You did not miss much by avoiding UH.  Unfortunately, though probably not uncommonly, the quality of my undergrad education was mediocre at best.  Not to mention UH is in one of the worst parts of town and is basically a commuter school.  I did manage to find a few good profs, but basically it was a stepping stone to get to law school.

Glad to be in SA, and NOT excited about Procedure at 8am (though I am a morning person).  Going to have to get up and really get moving if we're going to review at all before class.  Do you know anything about any of the profs?  The only one whose name I even know is R. Piatt in Research, and only b/c it's the dean's wife.

Sorry I haven't replied to my own thread, but I've had family in town for a couple of days.  Glad to know there are more STMU guys out there and reading this board.  I just ran across this a couple of weeks ago and have enjoyed most of what I have found.

I'm already in SA and loving it.  I'm a native Houstonian and wasn't exactly heartbroken to leave.  The two big changes I am most pleased with are the weather and TRAFFIC!  Both are much better here.

I have been to campus and like it.  It's not in the best part of town, but not the worst either and once you're on campus it's nice.  The law buildings are all close together and next to the athletic center and the UC; very convenient.

I've done some prep, but I'm trying not to ruin the summer by getting more anxious than necessary about what's ahead.

Though I'm not married, I might as well be.  My long-time girlfirend and I moved here together and the wedding is on hold exclusively due to the fact that I am starting school.

I hope to get to know you guys in the next year; I'm sure it will be memorable.  I did get my schedule the other day and am in Section C...how about you?

General Board / Re: prep for summer before law school

After spending countless hours reading "what to do before you attend LS" I finally ran across the most valuable resource available.  A friend in the town where I will be going to LS grew up with and is still friends with a graduate of my LS.  This guy is a practicing attorney (with an LLM also) and is a recent graduate.  His insight was invaluable b/c he attended my school and could give me a reasonable idea of what to expect.

Long story short...find someone who has attended your LS, preferrably in the last few years, and pick their brain.  Without being insulting, find out how they really did (grades) and how much work they really put into it.
