$55k, no scholarships.  Those 1st term grades were HUGE.

General Board / Re: Patent bar review course (PLI/PRG unaffordable)

No, patbar is horrible, it is a re-hash of the MPEP.  Get a used PRG or PLI course set, they are out there for under $1000, the revision is changing soon though or it did change.  Study old exam questions, 1/3 of the test is old questions, word for word.

Or you could just buy some PRG or PLI books used for a good price, and then resell them for about the same price.

Just bought my used 2009 Barbri books for $170, and a used 2009 Kaplan Multistate set for $100  ;D, should easily be able to get that much back when I resell them.

I also need to sell a $250 gift certificate I won for a Kaplan Bar course at some point....

Ugh, I need to take patent law, those questions are ridiculously easy for a patent agent.

I did PRG, which is actually the "best", and passed easily on my first try, but it also contains more material than you will need to know just for test.  I think PLI is just fine though if you are only using the materials for bar prep.  Also, doing old questions is half of the studying, bar review courses aside.  I explain the whole study process in more detail in some of my past posts.

Stay far away from the other courses, the quality drops drastically after PRG and PLI.  You can buy used copies of either of these courses and most likely resell them for most of what it cost you.

1L job search / Re: Working during academic year.
« on: December 15, 2008, 09:52:07 PM »
I'm back, after working 30 hours/week during the latter part of 1L and half of 2L, I would definitely not recommend working during 1L. It sucked. The reason it is easier during 2L and even easier during 3L, is because you have less required classes or none at all. Required classes tend to require more work and have heavier curves. Additionally, you can't control your schedule at all during 1L, which makes it significantly harder.

To anyone considering working during 1L, do not do it, wait to start working until your 1L summer.

Wow...20k...that should be enough to pay off the interest at least on someone's student loans AND live in section-8 housing.

General Board / Re: Law Preview - Yes or No?

Only if you would actually enjoy the trip and the travel costs were minimal. It is extremely unlikely that:
1) the program would be free to begin with,
2) that the travel costs would be minimal, and
3) to top it all off, that you would have more fun being lectured for many hours on end than anything else you could think of.

General Board / Re: Law Review Write-on how hard?
« on: May 22, 2008, 08:10:53 PM »
Eh, I wasn't being sarcastic, I really do need some motivation to get this write-on done, I already have 12 hours of classes + 15 to 20 hours of homework and readings + 40 hours of working/commuting each week  :'(.
