I live in New York City and never have trouble finding a Wachovia. They are not as popular as, say Bank of America, but they are definitely increasing in New York. I love Wachovia and have been with them for 6 years, so I may be partial. I also had a few bad experiences with Bank of America's customer service people.
I've been up to NYC a couple of times since deciding to go to Fordham. There aren't any banks or ATMs anywhere near the school (and when you have to pay $5 everytime you use anotehr bank's ATM, it's pretty important to have one around). There are, however, Chases, Citibanks, and BoAs--I'll be switching to one of these. I've had Wachovia for 7 years now, and they have pretty much just continually screwed me over with fees and nonsense. I've been looking for an excuse to change banks and this is a great one!
