thanks! Are you in section B?
Heh, what a coincidence. You're the guy he kept calling on after you answered his so-called "$600 question," right? You really seemed to handle everything he threw at you. Good job!
I'm actually in section C. And, to be honest, I've spoken with two 3L's and a handful of 2L's that say participation didn't count when they had his class. I don't see why Alf would change it from the last two years. Also, I don't trust the dean's fellow...he seems as though he enjoys watching us squirm in class. My guess is that the Dean's fellow is wary of informing us about the participation factor (or lack thereof) because it would really change the dynamic of lecture knowing that it had no affect on final grades. However, this is all just conjecture on my part because I trust the 2L's and 3L's a lot more than the dean's fellow.
Supposedly, Alfieri is much more lax to the 2L's and 3L's: not making them "stand and deliver," calling students by their first names, and he has even been known to bring lunch for his students from time to time (I assume the upper-level classes are small due to his notoriety). I'm hoping the stuff I've heard is true and that he's just trying to toughen us up or something.
