Law School Discussion

My family law exam is coming up, and although I've read every assignment and gone to class most of the times (although I failed to listen very attentively), I have no idea on how to prepare for the exam!  It seems to me like unlike other classes, family law is mostly based on state laws and do not have a comprehensive, consistent black letter law system.

For those who had taken family law before, could you please give me some advice?  I would much appreciate it!!

I'm planning on talking to a partner from Hughes & Luce, so technically it's more mid-sized firm rather than biglaw.

I'm a current SMU 2L looking for a summer internship.  I only rank in the middle of class since I didn't do so well in my first year.  I've been applying to firms in Dallas but so far have gotten few interviews...

I know a campaign manager in Austin and he's introducing me to a biglaw partner.  Dallas gives huge advantages to SMU students.  Does Austin have the same strong preference for UT students?  Also, how much do you think the fact that the campaign manager knows the partner (I don't know how well though) will help me in securing a summer job in Austin?

Guys, please give me some feedback...I'm kind of desperate for this summer!

Unfortunately, I'm being indecisive and the Apr 15th deadline is fast approaching!

I think I'll pay the $200 UT deposit and further wait for CLS financial aid and Harvard's decision.

on a side note, Duke and Chicago waitlisted me, and Boalt rejected me, so I threw their letters away

I'm very glad that I have this quality problem.  However, it's a hard decision nevertheless...

Should I take CLS (still waiting for Fin. aid, don't know how much I"ll get) or should I take full scholarship and stipend to attend U. Texas?

Facts about myself:

1. I attended UT undergrad
2. Combined family income for this year is pretty low (what's CLS gonna give me?)
2. Aspire to work in BigLaw
3. Likes the idea of living in new york, but cost of living there turns me off
4. Likes the idea of cheap living in TX
5. Ideally, I'd want work in a Chinese branch of an US big firm, as I want to work in China.

UT deadline is Apr 15, so I　gotta make this decision quickly!  I’m thinking about asking UT for an extension on my deposit deadline, do you think this is feasible?

Please have some inputs for me, as this would help me greatly.  Thank you!

on a side note: I'm still waiting for Harvard (if accepted, I'd give up both UT and CLS)
