General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Pepperdine 2010!
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:31:36 PM »
Now there's two people going to Pepperdine...  :)

Honestly, I think the main reason people bash Pepp is because of its conservatism and Ken Starr...those factors overshadow it's growing reputation as a strong law school.

I'm an agnostic, liberal from the East Coast. This should be interesting...  ;)

Financial Aid / Re: Leftover Loans?
« on: May 08, 2007, 07:34:24 PM »
You can do either. It's yours to spend on approved expenses, i.e. tuition, fees, living expenses, books, etc.

If you have extra, just remember that you will have to pay it back eventually- if you are in a position to give it back, you are essentially making a principal payment in advance back to the lender. It will reduce your principal and interest accumulated over the life of the loan.

Which will leave you with less debt after graduation.

And less debt equals more freedom.

Cheers,

Para  :D

Thanks! That's good to know. =)

Financial Aid / Leftover Loans?
« on: May 08, 2007, 07:15:39 PM »
What happens when I have loan money left at the end of the year? (and by loans, I'm referring to stafford loans). Do I give it back to the lender, or hold on to it for the next year? Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm one of those people who are turning down better schools for a lower-ranked (but by no means disreputable) school. I got into Georgetown and UCLA, but, as money is a pretty big deal for me, I'm most likely heading off to Pepperdine. I've gotten a lot of flack about my decision, but I honestly believe you're not throwing your life away by not attending a T14 or "better" school.

I don't know much about Loyola, but it does have location going for it. If you're interested in working in that area, go for it. It'll be much more difficult to relocate from Bmore.

Anyway, good luck! Maybe we'll be fellow LA-ers!

Law School Applications / Re: Is it even worth it?
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:00:45 PM »
I think it's pretty stupid that people say anything below a T14 is worthless. Take all the people who graduate from those top schools, and you'll still not have enough to fill all the law-related jobs that need filling.

...but then again, maybe I'm trying to convince myself =P I'm leaning towards Pepperdine over UCLA because I'm getting a full ride from Pepperdine, and I've been called an idiot by many on this board.

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Pepperdine Help
« on: March 28, 2007, 01:51:29 PM »
I got a full ride to Pepperdine, and, considering UCLA isn't coughing up anything as far as I can tell, I'm hoping someone can help me with the former!

I'm not really Christian, so what's the environment like? (not too conservative in my views, either)
Is it really that difficult for PU students to find jobs? I'm assuming it'll be like at almost any school-be in the top percent or so, and you're in a pretty good position.

I'm really hoping I won't regret my decision to go. But the full scholarship is too good to pass up!

Acceptances / NYU Letters
« on: February 02, 2007, 12:37:27 PM »
Does anyone know if NYU is done with acceptances? I'm looking through LSN, and I seem to be seeing no new acceptances in the past few days, although there are a lot of rejections.

Are you talking about being passed through initial review?

Yup.

Anyone deferred from Berkeley hear back yet?

Acceptances / UCLA Financials
« on: February 02, 2007, 12:12:25 PM »
What can anyone tell me about UCLA and financial aid? There doesn't seem to be much information on their website about scholarships, aside from one, and they don't mention how much it is for. And I might be wrong, but do they send out financial aid info after April? That would be annoying...

I really hope UCLA's good about giving money! I'd love to go there, and they have to compete with $35,000 from Pepperdine.
