I'm about to graduate from GSU...
if you want to try the dorms, there is one building (of the 4) that houses mostly seniors and grad students...it's called Ithaca, I think. Space is very limited though and it will most likely involve putting yourself on a waiting list to get a room this late in the spring.
From living in the dorms my freshman year, I would not advise it. Ir's very dangerous, right in the middle of a bad neighborhood. It is right across the street from Ga Tech though. However, there were 2 rapes the year I lived there, and a kid got shot walking not even a quarter mile from the buildings...just food for thought.
The apartment availability in Atlanta is really good, there are lots of places to live. If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, I would say try to move away from downtown as possible, closer to the outer perimeter of the city. Anywhere that's 10-15 minutes from GSU, you could find a good price.
