Canadian Law Students / Re: U of T vs. Osgoode
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:18:53 PM »
-Osgoode's class size is 300 vs U of T at 170. Huge class means lots of competition.
-Osgoode is located outside of Toronto's downtown in the Jane & Finch area, which is notoroious for crime and generally a bad place to live
-Osgoode's law building is a windowless brick block, and York's campus is really awful

Contrary to what has been posted in this thread Osgoode does NOT have the weakest employment numbers. That honour belongs to uOttawa. Also, Western is nothing special, it is on par with the rest of the canadian schools (middle of the pack).

Pros for Osgoode is it has a huge alumni base, lots of clinics, huge library, huge course selection.U of T matches it in most of these respects. There is some New York recruitment at Osgoode but not as much as U of T or Mcgill.

U of T is not head and shoulders above Osgoode, I would say it presents slightly better opportunities and a much more comfortable environment. And there you go...

Canadian Law Students / Re: Canadian Salaries?
« on: May 19, 2008, 07:07:09 PM »
Standard summer/articling salary in toronto is 1450 a week, 95-100k first year with bonus up to 20%. Davies and BennettJones pay slightly more at 1600/1700. There are still some bay street firms stuck at 1300 which was the market rate up to last year. In Vancouver you can expect 45-50k articling, 75-80 first year.

Toronto is the market leader in Canada, followed closely by Calgary, then Vancouver and Montreal. The market in Vancouver is not weak, it is just saturated with students because of the two lawschools there and because everyone wants to live in Vancouver. Vancouver's economy is not as strong as Calgary/Toronto, it is mostly based on real estate and lumber.

Studying for the LSAT / Re: What Q's were removed from scoring?
« on: June 30, 2007, 11:02:43 AM »
there weren't any removed

163. My exact target score.

I completely blew one of the LR's but compensated on the games, which I usually do badly on.

I know I am capable of 170's, and in my prepping cycle, scored 4 of them; but I am keeping this score and going to the best school that takes me. I am glad that this process is finally complete.

Congratulations to all who did well, condolences to all who did not.

Thanks everyone for being there during this wild ride.

same score as me and I was scoring about this same as you in practice tests too

a raw score of 86 for a 163 is pretty rough..

163 here. Fairly happy with it, had 154 in sept. 06

had -2, -4, -4, -6

(LR, LG, RC, LR)

that last LR really wrecked my score. I was so tired though :(

Not to (potentially - maybe I'm remembering this wrong) ruin the whole 'waiting until Monday and not having to sit at a computer all weekend' thing for you guys, but didn't the Sept '06 scores come out on a Saturday?

i sat for sept 06, and no, they were out on friday

the date in the update box has ALWAYS meant that the score is coming.

oh yeah, and hasn't the list changing to "cannot be displayed" ALWAYS meant that the score is coming to?  ::)

Hey some dude was posting in another thread that they've gone out as late as 8 before, so I don't think I'd rule it out yet.

Why wait?

They've never waited this late before.
