Law School Admissions / Re: Georgetown 1L Taking Questions
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:49:12 PM »
Hey guys I am a Section 3 1L at Georgetown if anyone has any questions about curriculum B.

To start with I can say I absolutely love it! My class mates are all amazing and interesting, we have a wonderful faculty and our reading materials are very interesting. I think we maybe do read more but I certainly haven't found it overwhelming...

I love Georgetown too- see you in a few months!

I graduated with First class honors from the top Environmental Sciences program in the UK (and most say in Europe). I definitely feel my grades were not transferred fairly and that being from a UK school put me a huge disadvantage. I really think graduating with a first should be equivalent to more than a 3.7 and it is really harsh that a high 2:1 would be calculated as below this. I know plenty of 3.8 + students who have studied abroad in England and generally received a 2:1 in papers and exams.
I am really excited about going to GULC this fall and wouldn't change that for anything given personal circs, but if I was going to do the admissions process again looking for higher options I would definitely have retaken my LSAT (which was 3-4 points lower than my practice average) if I had known how my grades would end up being transferred.

I'll be there- I'm so excited. I am definitely thinking about Curriculum B.
Not sure about housing yet- I don't think they have married housing on campus do they?

I will call GULC Monday- I only just got the scholarship offer.
Money is not the only decider of course- smaller class sizes, more friendly atmosphere also come into play, but of course in the end it really comes down the the $$$. I want kids soonish, and know from current experience how little PI can pay.

But isn't $60,000 going to be quite liberating for someone set on Public Interest?

Okay- so I have a huge dilemma- I really want to go to GULC (interested in Environmental Law, public Interest and possibly going into politics). However GULC has offered me no $$$ and Northwestern has offered me $60,000.

What should I do? I am am at my wit's end with this decision.

I live in the Morley Fields area (very sloe to Balboa Park). I pay $1195 for a huge 2 bedroom.
It's about a 10-15 min drive to USD (I work right by the campus.)

If you have any other questions about SD please let me know.
