I just (Friday) got back from an Accepted Students Day at ND and we toured the on-campus housing.  The newer apartments Fischer, which have AC generally seemed to be smaller than then older ones O'Hara-Grace.  The O'Hara-Graces we saw were ok, depending on how much light they got and how into decorating you were.  I think most of the law students said that they liked that it was close, but felt that off campus was a lot cheaper, especially if you have a family.  You can't request a roommate or even a law student your first year.  I think that after that you can choose where to live.
