I came from CA and just brought my clothes and necessities (ie: cats) on the plane with me.  Unfortunately I still have a lot of stuff back in CA that I've accumulated living on my own for almost 10 yrs, but really, you don't have much time to enjoy your things anyways.  I should specify though, that my clothes/shoes and such took up like 5 suitcases.  You can always bring back more stuff after winter break.  And shop when you get here! (which we did a lot of)

Start looking now.  I looked using the off campus housing site.

A visit would be ideal.  But my first visit was to get the lease to sign, as GCoop can well attest.

I didn't.  But I know people who used LSD and Craig's List.

Depends.  A decent number of people have pets.

How much of a pain in the ass is it to move across the country?  How did you do it (gengis or jolie)?  Moving 6 blocks WITHIN MY NEIGHBORHOOD was terrible.  Moving over 600 miles seems like a goddamn nightmare.

too many responses to make:

1. section E cheats.
2. Primus is everything everyone says he is.  (not sure who would win in a verbal knife fight him or JJ)
3. Please please please stop feeding the monster that is GCoop's ego (kisses)
4. GCoop-doesn't someone already do your laundry?

Like trying to steal our trophy and sexually assaulting me in the process isn't cheating?

yea, that was not me, and you missed the continuation of the hyper-activity in property (are you ever coming to class? :P)

For everyone who is summer starting, I'll be around because I'm doing research for one of my profs this summer - I sense some sangria-soaked afternoons at Dominic's in the future.

Um, and we have some rooms in our very cool house too?!?!?

(but you'd have to love and worship my cats that will probably be staying there)

On Cars and Dates:

Having a car is neither necessary nor sufficient, but it certainly helps.

b/c you're gonna take a bus to roadhouse?

I hope you'll all buy our new t-shirts.

Michigan Law:  Where Fun Goes To Have More Fun!

Is this for real?

Yes.

ETA: Unless by 'our' you think we mean officially sanctioned by the school and/or the Law Student Senate.  If, on the other hand, you think we mean 'the residents of [redacted address]', then yes, really real.

I want one!

there are loads of options if the one women's option doesn't float your boat.  snake is in charge of this, however (though the slogan was mine), so you'll have to ask him about other styles.

snake?!?  do i even want to know?

it's a joke from SFLSD. i think i used someone's real name and goaliechica reminded me that wasn't kosher, so i've been using thinly camouflaged rhyming placeholders ever since.  mostly just for her and blake, though.

hahahaha, don't forget to do it for drake either :)

How necessary is it to own a car? Mine is a $1,000 p.o.s. that runs but is 15 years old and looks pretty outdated. I was thinking about selling it for some start-up $$ for law school and to keep my expenses down as a student. Would I regret selling it? Will it be significantly harder for me to find a girlfriend if I don't have a car? Do most of the students have cars in LS?

If you have one that will make it here, and you'll only get 1k for it, bring it.  Edit: bring it if you're living off campus, b/c if you live in the lc it is expensive to park it (or a pain in the ass to find free parking all the time).  I didn't bring my car b/c it would've taken about 5 days to get here, but am lucky enough to know wonderful people that let me borrow their cars.  If I didn't, I would be a sad sad girl.

(gonna try and get p-dog to bring the cady back:))

To answer the gym questions...I (as well as Pearl and Bouzie) go to the IM building which is about two blocks from the law school.  Pearl and I go to run (b/c it is too wet/cold/snowy/icy to run outside), although we still suck it up and do it sometimes.  The gym is alright.  Equipment is alright, but it definitely gets crowded b/c it is also too cold to run outside for the million undergrads in the town.  I'm fine with it--the wait has never been more than 10 min.  The treadmills are fine...the weight equipment is sparse, but there are never people waiting.  The reason I don't go to another gym is b/c I could spend the money elsewhere and I don't have a car, but I'm happy with the IM building fwiw.  The school gyms do have classes but they aren't free.  My favorite thing about the IM building is the nice track out back, but unfortunately I haven't used that recently either (b/c of weather--which btw is really weird today, snow storm, now sunny).

And, sorry to say hollowman, but as to your roommate--he only goes to the gym when I can drag him there, which is just about never, and I guess I missed the throwing of the spandex (although he does where the MLaw shirt--love you GCoop).

How much do you guys pay in rent for what kind of apartment, and how far from the law quad are you?

pearl, bouzie, and i share an amazing house for a little less than $600/ea a month.  gcoop and hollowman also live in a house, but pikey lives in an apt.  i think 1 bedrooms run about $800.  (coming from socal, my rent is amazingly cheap)

All walking distance from the quad?

How'd you all find roommates/houses as 1Ls?
