Personal Statement / Re: what should i write about
« on: September 10, 2001, 03:06:54 PM »
Here's a tip that an admissions officer gave me. Paraphrased, of course.

The person holding your essay isn't reading it with a big red pen going, "Why didn't she say this? Why didn't she say that? Where's the explanation for this? Why didn't she cure aids?" Instead, we're just reading it to get a sense of you as a person. Don't write "I want to go to law school because . . ." but tell us what led you to where you are.

Heh, this may not help at all, but I hope it does . . . a little? 8) Good Luck!

If you can fit it into your schedule, you might want to take a Discrete Mathematics or Symbolic Logic class.

I didn't do this but, I have friends who did and they swear that it helped them.

Have fun!

Law School Applications / Re: Where would you apply with these #?

There's a good chance you'll get into most, if not all, of those schools. If I were you, I'd also apply to a few schools more schools in the 15-25 category. I think you have a reasonable shot at those with a 166 LSAT.

Good luck!  8)

I refuse to say anything is impossible. ;) Every case is different so it's hard to generalize and say you'll never get in.

That said, realistically, unless ND is the lowest you're willing to go, I'd go for a lower safety. Schools in the middle of the Tier 1 pack tend to be gungho about raising their rank (cuz they're soooo close to breaking top 25) so they tend to be less lenient about numbers, esp. the LSAT.

Have you thought about retaking the LSAT?

I'm outtie. TTYL! :)

Imho, with a 3.4/156, those schools are going to be reaches. Your extras and Ivy degree might help you, but I'm not sure they'd be able to change a whole lot.

I'd say your chances at GULC, Vandy and NWU are going to be pretty low given their medians. BC, I hear, look for 3.5/160s.

BU is notoriously LSAT heavy. They do seem to give Ivy grads some leeway but its usually in the GPA department and not LSAT. BU is getting into "we're going to cut class size and be more selective to raise rankings" mode so they might be more critical about the lower LSAT.

I have no experience with ND . . . can't help ya there.

Good Luck! :)

Studying for the LSAT / Re: It's almost here!

You have 5 business days to decide if you want to cancel your score.

Think carefully before you cancel. Do it only if you know you screwed up, not because you have no confidence in yourself.

Good luck!  ;D

Have you tried Master the LSAT? :)

Work on as many Preptests as you can. After each test, review the answers thoroughly and make sure you know why one option is right and the others are wrong. I think I spent as much time reviewing the answers as I did taking the tests.

Good luck!!  8)

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Who's going to BU?
« on: June 27, 2001, 12:55:39 PM »
Nope, didn't get the invite for the yahoo groups list.
Hmm, the only one I've talked to on that list is Sarah.

So we get the renovated classrooms! Awww, how sweet of them. Maybe I will bring a laptop then.

Gah, back to packing hell. Where did all these friggin' things come from! I . . . hate . . . moving.

:( I missed it. So who else was there? Other incoming BU 1Ls?

Hey, are you two planning on bringing laptops to class? Our school building is so damn old, are the classrooms even wired?
