Lets say Driver A who has been drinking runs a red light and crashes into Driver B  who was going through the intersection on a green light. Driver B suffers a broken leg.

Is the cause in fact that A went through a red light?

What would be the proximate cause???

1ls are not tested on legal writing skills.  They are tested on well they understand the material when given a different set of fact patterns.  Making sure all the elements are met or not met.  IRAC with detail.  If you think you have to write like you are some judge in 1800 England your nuts guy.

I'm sure you are all aware of the website www.4lawschool.com

But in particular the briefs by Sam Biers are phenomenal.  On point exactly what you need.  When I had orientation many professors and advisers warned against using such briefs and that those who did typically don't make it past the first semester.   They obviously have not had the chance to look over any briefs by Sam Biers. lol

I have a question in my Crim law class:

What are the retributive arguments supporting the division of murders into degrees? ( this I understand )
What are the criticisms of the way this has been done, given most courts hold that premeditation can occur within a matter of a few seconds? (unsure)????....

This is a fine argument if you really want to be a lawyer because of the day-to-day work.   But there are a lot of ways to make $50,000 without going into so much debt, not to mention the fact that law school takes three years out of your career.

Also, are you using IBR (income based repayment program) numbers for the repayment amounts?   A 50,000 student loan is 387.65 for 20 years.  Since Cooley's tuition is $30,000 a year and most students don't have substantial scholarships past the first year, I'd have to bet that the huge majority have $100,000+ in debt.  A $100,000 loan is $775 a month for 20 years.

However, if you make $50,000 your IBR payments on $100,000 will probably be:

205/month if you have a family of 4 
280/month if you have a family of 3
350/month if you have a family of 2
and
420/month if you are single with no kids.

Then everything you haven't paid after 25 years is forgiven.  But remember that your payments go up when your income goes up.  So if you hit it big 15 years from now, you'll have to pay all of it back including the massive amounts of interest.



Sure you could sell drugs and make 50k but I think 50k is a legit salary for a 25-30 yr old trying to start a life.  Another 5 yrs down the road if not set up to be partner 75k would be a realistic salary amount.  So at that point you could piss out 420/month regardless of what your debt balance is you have a law degree that can never be taken away.
