I too was going to point out that you, D., are also a law student who wants to go into big law...but random beat me to it. Take it easy, guys. 4
2L job search / Re: Question on job offers« on: October 10, 2009, 11:53:30 AM »I told OP my take on the situation. You called it "lame speculation." I cited to classmates, recruiters, and associates, then ATL confirmed it all five days later. Anyway, the fact that I know what I'm talking about isn't the point. The point is that you tried to call BS when I described a strategy that virtually EVERYONE involved with hiring this year knows about. Like I said on the 4th: the 2Ls know it, the recruiters are open about it and even the damn junior associates you knew from college will give you their takes on their firms' newfangled offer waitlists. 1. 180. 2. DudeMan: Boom, roasted. 5
Law Firms / Re: undergrad - does it factor in at all?« on: October 05, 2009, 02:18:52 PM »
I think it's helped me a little bit. i.e., I've gotten a bit of a bump and a second look from places, and firms tend to think I'm more impressive because of it. I don't think an Ivy undergrad would cancel out the effect of having mediocre grades, though.

Law School Applications / Re: transfer worries...« on: October 05, 2009, 02:15:19 PM »so should I spend an extra year or two years in school? This depends entirely on how much it would cost, whether you could stand doing so, and by how much it would raise your grade. If it would take you two years to go from a 3.2 to a 3.3, and you'd need to get all A's, I doubt it's worth it. 7
2L job search / Re: Federal Public Defender - worthwhile?« on: October 04, 2009, 09:46:51 PM »Yep, it's prestigious and highly selective. I've heard that you get to do a lot of litigation, although it's a lot of low-level drug offenders. I interviewed for a 1L position with the federal defender, and they told me that they deal with a lot of low-level drug offenders. This was in a large metropolitan city, though, so the case may be different where you live. 8
