I know!  Right after the media made a big deal about the Imus comments, Georgetown refused to give me a bigger scholarship.  The only explanation is that I'm white and there was a backlash of anger against all white people.

Seriously, dude, could it be possible that UCLA isn't giving out a lot more money right now because it's getting late in the cycle?  And is it possible that he asked if you were coming to UCLA because he had gotten mixed signals from before?  Not everything is hatred and racism.  There are other explanations.

First, I'd check my math.  I'm not sure how someone with enough credits to graduate (over 100 credits I'm assuming) could have one B drop them so much.  Your GPA right now at 3.5 is just above a B+ average, so I don't see how a B in one class could drop your overall GPA so much.

That being said, I think a W would look worse than a B, or even a B-.  Given your GPA, I'd guess you have plenty B+'s and A-'s with some B's and A's here and there.  So a B in this class doesn't seem like it will catch any eyes, and I think it will drop your GPA more like .01 (maybe .02 at most) instead of .04.

Where should I go next fall? / Work hours at a law firm

After doing a little research on the NALP directory, it seems most law firms claim their lawyers work around 2000 hours a year.  I have a hard time believing that; I'm thinking maybe that's the number of hours they actually spend in the office, but they probably go home and work a couple more hours each night.  Anyone have any website or information on what work hours would be like for an attorney in NY, DC, Atlanta, and Charlotte?  I'm guessing more around 60 hours a week instead of 2000 a year.

If you won't get recruited, how do you explain the placement rates after graduation?  You might not get recruited into biglaw, but 98.9% of graduates of FSU law school have a job within 9 months of graduation.  Obviously someone outside of the top ten percent is getting recruited...

If your direct relative has documentation, then you can easily get documentation from your tribe and you will have no problem.  Not all tribes are federally recognized, so I'm not sure how law schools deal with this issue.  I'm sure they still enjoy the diversity, but I'm not sure they get to count it in their all-important diversity numbers.

Law School Applications / fee waiver question

I'm a junior with a good GPA (3.9) looking at applying next year.  I'll take the LSAT in June, and I'm testing at 163-169 in practice tests.  I'm American Indian, and yes, I really did grow up on the reservation and all. (I'm not one of those one-sixteenth "American Indians" trying to forge a URM status to improve my chances of getting accpted.) 

My question is do law schools give out fee waivers based on race?  Is it the same for URMs and non-URMs or are URMs given more fee waivers to try to recruit them?

Aside from the right/wrong discussion of AA, the entire point of AA isn't to overcome poverty.  We have social programs for that.  The point of AA is to get more minorities into professions they traditionally have trouble cracking into.
