I don't know much abuot Kent....have they always been called Kent, or is that already a name change from Illinois Institute of Technology? Are they thinking of changing it from Kent to something new?
Well their full name, and what is printed on their degrees and everything is "Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent"
I don't think they are changing it to anything new, just wondered what people thought. Impressions I've gotten from other boards is that a name-change would eliminate some of the image problem Kent seems to have outside of Chicago where people seem to think it is a tech school or community college with some bizarre law school arm

I think that they should change their name to Princeton Law School and immediately get a boost of reputation to T14.

Do you think this would be a good thing? I've heard from a lot of different people (current Kent students, prospective students, people working in biglaw firms in chicago, other lawyers on the west coast) that one of the best things IIT/Chicago-Kent could do would be to change up its name to something more prestigious sounding to try and rid most people's erroneous mental link to some TTT community college if they weren't already familiar with the school.
I sent an email to the Assistant Dean just inquiring if they had considered such a thing in the past and he said "no, but I would be interested in knowing if a majority of people feel that a name-change would help Kent". So what do you guys think?

cool, this thread finally made me stop procrastinating about ordering LEWWS and just doing it. Hopefully this is worth it! Looks like it will give me some good experience over the summer before school starts tho

u made a fine choice in picking Loyola over Kent mainly because I too will be attending LUC this fall.... I saw all the Kent trolls on the various law school boards trying to hype up their school... if it was as good as these people claim it was you dont need to be yelling at the top of your lungs to anyone who will listen that kent is better, people would already know it was a better school if it was in fact better.
loyola has a name people have heard of, even those outside this crazy rankings game...
haha, I will say that xoxo seems to have many more Kent fans than Loyola fans. Of course, if your aren't going to NU or UofC for your chitown school you are TTT over there anyway, but I was surprised by how much pimping Kent was receiving by those people, many of them claiming to work in top firms in the city. That board and the discussions there were what made this decision so difficult for me. When it came down to it tho, Loyola just had a better class schedule for me to fit in with work, plus the feel I got from the school was infinitely better than Kent. When I went into the admissions office at Kent to ask a couple questions the lady behind the desk actually said to me "you don't need to ask all these questions, just give me the money!" It was said in a half-joking manner, but was still annoying. I will say that the classes I sat in on at Kent had lively and very interesting professors.

Man, this whole decision making process has been unbearable and I am so happy to have finally decided. I will be doing part-time evening at Loyola Chicago this coming fall since I decided to keep my full-time job (who has generously agreed to pay for my entire tuition). I'm really excited. I flip-flopped between Loyola and Kent for probably 3 months and am so glad now that I have made a decision and can relax.
So whos the rest of the LUC crew on here? Since I'm coming in after work, Im taking the Metra into Union @ around 5:30pm. Cabs seem to be the quickest way to get from the west loop to gold coast - are there any other students arriving via metra that would like to catch a cab together for the evening classes and save some $$$

You're going to have to decide soon. Kent's deposit is due on Friday, don't forget. I just forked over $200, and sent a withdraw notice to Loyola. I sure hope I'm making the right decision. Loyola had offered me 20k more over the last 2 years.
Yea I already sent in my seat deposit to Kent. Im visiting both Kent and Loyola again for the 2nd time this week/early next week and then I will decide before May 1 when Loyola's seat deposit is due.
So you went with Kent huh? What was your final thought process before deciding to send in the seat deposit?

Id like to add that I created this thread about an hour after coming home from the admit day so my emotions have cooled a bit now with time. I have decided that I am not certain about attending Loyola over Kent so am back where I started, sigh. I think in all probability Kent just ran a poor admitted students day so I have scheduled to head back to the school this thursday to sit in on a real class, talk with an IP prof for an hour, and walk around the school by myself. Ill update this thread again after I get back from that.
Basically where I am at right now is: Kent has better location, probably better faculty, and newer facilities. Loyola feels nicer and more concerned with their students (who knows if its true, but even calling them on the phone I get extremelly friendly and helpful people whereas at Kent the person in admissions didn't even say goodbye to me on the phone, just hung up after abruptly cutting me off and answering my question).
The class schedule is a toss-up for me right now. Loyola would be (Mon, Wed, Thurs, Sat) while Kent is (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs). The saturday option is attractive to me because weekdays are a mjor rush for me to leave work early and commute into Chicago while saturday morning will be much more relaxing. However, if legal writing at Kent is offered at 8:30-9:30 on Tues/Thurs instead of 6-7 on Mon/Wed then I will only have 2 days each week that I would have to leave work early to make class so that would be great.
Sigh, there really isnt any point to this post, just me trying to get my information in order. Im still torn between where I want to go
I spoke to professor Dinwoodie yesterday and he seemed like a pretty cool character. I was talking to him about Legal Writing, and I think that's going to be the deciding factor for me for Kent over Loyola. Even though Loyola is giving me more $$.
could you elaborate a bit on what you talked about with him? The professor I'm speaking with on thursday will probably focus more on IP questions rather than writing, but I am interested in their legal research/writing program as well. Does it really seem better than Loyola's (I noticed Loyola has scheduled 5 hours of legal research/writing every week for part-time students while Kent has only scheduled 2 each week). Kent also seems to have a larger class size for legal writing (they told me 30 students while Loyola was around 18)
