L.L.M. Board / NYU/Georgetown Tax LLM Admissions

Hi All-

I'm a 3L, top-10% + LR at a top-20 law school, with a biglaw offer. My law firm is doing the whole "we'll give you 75k if you don't start until Oct. 2010" deal. I'm applying for a tax LLM at NYU (and probably Georgetown), but my firm is going to need to know my deferral decision before I get my acceptance/rejection.  So, I'm trying to figure out what to do. 

Does anyone here know more about the admissions standards at these programs than I do?

The school's politics are no mystery, but i'm trying to get a feel for what the incoming class might be like.... vote if you're seriously considering, even if you haven't sent a deposit.

was wondering if anyone else got a handwritten message on their acceptance letter referencing their personal statement.  it's kind of cute... i was bitter at BU, but they might've won me over  :D

also, my internet's running slow so i'm having trouble searching through back-posts... what's the deal with BU scholarships offers? are they mailed seperately?  would i have needed to apply?  i might have forgotten to mail them the financial aid application... or i might have remembered... i have no idea really... wondering if i might've snuck by with some money or if i capped out at W&M/ Notre Dame  ???

Law School Applications / Northwestern Interview Speculation

Had my interview on Friday... it was excellent... couldn't have been paired with a more amiable interviewer.

i'm wondering though how much ability the NU interview has to impact admissions decisions?  i mean they certainly gave me a whole unsolicited "this has been such a great interview this is why we have these interviews, because it's not all about the numbers" bit... very complimentary for the last 5 minutes of the interview, really.. and i didn't get any NU marketing, just really great conversation.....

i don't know.  it couldn't have possibly gone any better... but then, i wonder if it even matters

thoughts?

Law School Applications / Reject on basis of optional essay?

do you think schools reject bc of an unimpressive option essay?  assuming the rest of your application is good?  ... or is it just a question of whether you take the time to write an optional essay?  ???

some of mine kind of sucked... i'm getting increasingly paranoid the longer i wait to hear...

i know it's discouraged, but i'm considering it.  i'll probably go to USD, and san diego is pretty expensive... as is the law school... an extra income can't hurt anything, if it's feasible (my personal situation would be working remotely, from home, for the company i work for now.. usually putting together power point presentations)

any thoughts on this?
