I was also at the open house on Saturday. My thoughts for what they are worth:
1. I felt it was a little disorganized.
2. My tour guide was a totally depressed 1L from Texas who chose Willamette because of the stream running through campus. Bad reason to choose a school! I did pitty her bc it was her first winter in Oregon and she has not seen the sun in months.
3. The Business Law presentation was lacking as was the inital opening ceremony. I felt they could have done more to "sell" their program. I did like the growing connection with the Business school that they are trying to create.
Anyway, all and all it seems that they have an improving program with many notable alumni and many highly qualified professors. If I do attend I will have to commute from Portland as my wife has a good job there and will be supporting me through school!
It sounds like there are several students who make the commute (45 min on Saturday morning) and some even car pool.
My advice to those out there considering Willamette: if you plan on staying in the NW it is a good program that should open doors in the area post law school. But if you don't want to stay in the rainy NW not a great fit. Also, consider there are only 21 major law firms in Portland, therefore, limited internship opportunities in "big law" setting.
