As others have pointed out, working during 1L year is probably ill-advised, even if not disallowed by your school. However, I'm a 3L who has been working 15 hrs/wk this year at my job from last summer, and its been great. My grades have never been better, and the money is obviously nice. I should note, though, that my employer is super laid back and understanding that my school comes first, and I probably wouldn't be working there otherwise.

Just got an offer at my top choice firm over a month after the callback. However, the firm is rather well known for taking its time. I assume this is an interview for an associate position rather than a summer associate position? If that's the case, then I think that it often takes a little longer because they don't have as many slots to fill, so they're more likely to be comparing you against all other applicants rather than just filling in the slots as they go.

So, don't necessarily give up!

Yay, Jimalay... you sat in on my class. And the guy you thought was super-boring really isn't, you might have caught one of his more boring classes, but he's really passionate about the material and it generally translates.

Also, you'll be thrilled when you have professors who don't do socratic when you actually get to school. I don't pay this much to listen to follow students wax philosophical, thanks.

Was anyone else unnecessarily excited that someone named Samuel L. Jackson will be in our class?

I got the housing booklet today, although I fear that finding a roomie will be hard because I'll be living with my boyfriend, and no one wants to live with couples (even though it just doubles the awesome people you get to live with :) ). I also have no idea where I'm living, and since I'm pretty anal about planning things like this, its freaking me out.

Its actually easy to find housing anytime because there are soooo many apartment complexes here, but you might have to live with people you don't know which could be scary if they turn out to be non-stop partiers and you're trying to study.

Apartment complexes to stay away from if you're looking for quiet/nonundergrad housing:
Fountain Circle (Where I live, next to the marketplace, it is along the G bus line which runs the most often, every 15 minutes I think. However, people here, including me, are pretty loud and there are often large parties on the weekend.)
Same general deal for the Lexington and Arlington farm apartments.

But if you need info, look here:
http://www.daviswiki.org/Apartments

The wiki has allllll sorts of stuff about Davis, I mostly use it to figure out if food places are still open when I get late night cravings though. :)

I was pretty impressed with it, although sad that the only person I met that day who I really liked was a 3L, lol. I'm thinking I might live in Calabassas or something like that because of the boyfriend's future job at Amgen or one of those type places.

P.S. For those who were in the property class, I'm the girl who asked whether all classes were normally as fun and interesting...and probably if you remember that you think I'm a total suck-up, lol. But that totally wasn't my intention, I just don't really believe classes are normally that informal.

I just called, the admissions lady said that different people have different deposit deadlines and everyone should go by what it says in the information mailed to them.
