Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: Georgetown Preview Weekend
« on: March 29, 2006, 09:24:21 PM »
I'll be there, but it doesn't look like there's going to be much of an LSD crowd there, since no one has talked about the Open House much. I'm looking forward to seeing the campus, and Washington itself, since I've never been there. I guess the only downside is that the only flight I could get leaves at 6am tomorrow morning, ouch. Other than that, I'm looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be a fun couple of days.

Acceptances / Re: LSD Party at Georgetown Admit Days

ok yeah I found it on the site, it was kind of hidden. I wish they had a forum on there the way that some other schools do for admitted students.  It is weird that they haven't sent anything in the mail or given us more info on it though.

I know, it is weird that we haven't heard any more about it. I thought I remembered them sending more stuff about the earlier Open House that they had in January (which I couldn't make it to), so I had figured they'd do the same for this open house. I guess they might e-mail us something in the next couple days though, that's always a possibility.

Just to bring this one back to the top, since alot of people were on it...is anyone going to that "open house" on the 30th and 31st ? I haven't really gotten any info for it, is it just the same thing as what preview weekend was ?

I'll be at the Open House this weekend too. I think there's a schedule posted on the admitted students website, but other than that I haven't heard anything from Georgetown about it either.

I'd agree with a lot of the bands mentioned already, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Parade, Wilco, CLYHSY,etc.

A few others I'd mention:

We Are Scientists-With Love and Squalor
Belle and Sebastian-The Life Pursuit
Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins-Rabbit Fur Coat
The Hold Steady-Separation Sunday (not brand new, came out last year)
The New Pornographers-Twin Cinema
Okkervil River-Black Sheep Boy
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists-Shake the Sheets

yes. We Are Scientists toured with a band called Speechwriters LLC for a bit. SWLL haven't broken yet, but I fully expect them to in the near future.

Also: CBGB--its a shame about your namesake.  :(

A friend of mine saw We Are Scientists a few weeks ago in Toronto, unfortunately they didn't make the trip up here to Ottawa. He said it was the best show from a new band that he could remember, and this is from a guy who goes to a lot of shows. They show a lot of potential, and write catchy songs. I thought a lot of the reviews were kind of unfair to them, but that's how it goes I guess.

As for CBGB's, what's the latest? I'd heard it had basically been run into the ground, and was pretty much a dump these days. It's not completely gone is it? Visiting that place is one of my life goals (sad as that may be).

I know a few of those aren't brand new, but they're all relatively new. If you're looking for straight rock, my list probably isn't the most helpful, although The Hold Steady, We Are Scientists, and the New Pornographers should be helpful.

Anyone else see the irony in this thread having 300 views and 10 replies?

Ding...has anyone who called been admitted?

It does seem odd that we haven't heard of a single person who called and wasn't rejected (other than Jason's waitlist). Not one person who has been admitted, that seems kind of strange. I haven't bothered calling them because I don't like the odds right now.

Got mine in the mail yesterday, letter dated Feb.15. Not a huge surprise or anything, given my numbers.

I was there with my dad, I was from the University of Ottawa. I'm not sure I did too much to stand out really, so I'm not sure how else to describe myself, sorry.
