Recommendations / Letter of Rec. pickle...
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:54:17 AM »
Hi All-
My degree is in English Literature, so two of my letters of rec. will be from Profs in that department. I need one more, and was thinking of my biology TA. Science is NOT my strong subject, but I worked really hard for a 3.0 in the class. She knows me well and liked me, so I was wondering if she would be a good choice for my third. I thought maybe her reflection on my hard work would add an element outside of the liberal arts.

Btw, the rest of my science grades are mediocre (at best).

Suggestions?

Where should I go next fall? / Chicago-Kent PT?
« on: June 19, 2009, 10:07:45 AM »
Hi All-
Just curious of what you all have to say about the Chicago-Kent part time program. From what i've read, it's easier to get into and still a good program.

If it helps, stats are 2.4 UGPA (all calculated out by law school standard) and LSAT 171.
As for my sickly low UGPA, I plan on writing an addendum to explain (i've battled cancer, hope that suffices in their eyes).

Any info or opinions would be helpful :)

Anybody have thoughts on a part-time program at Chicago Kent? I was doing research and read it's easier to get into a PT program, and it seems to be a good school... Cooley and UDM prospect is just totally depressing me.

What a hassle, and yuck to all your shame grades being factored in  :-[

In my situation, when my UGPA is calculated through the official law board, there is no way I'll have anything over a 2.0 (with the initial bad grade factored in). I'm not the person on here with a "horrible" UGPA at 3.4. Hah, I wish! I feel like I have a snowball's chance in hell in applying to UofMich, although it's my dream school.

Law School Applications / Transcript Question from a n00b,

Hi All,
I've taken classes at 2 universities and 1 community college, and I'm wondering if I need to contact each of them to have those grades recorded to the official LSAT site (can't think of the name right now, mentally dying in the office). Or does my home university transcript say it all?

Good idea on just sucking it up and applying to a ton of schools. You miss every shot you don't take, right?

Quick question- when they calculate your UGPA, do they factor in 0.0s even if they have been redone and passed with good grades? If so, I'm totally SOL in the UGPA department.

Thanks for the responses. If I were to apply out of state, which schools would be reasonable choices?

Hi All-
I'm brand new here, so if my thread has been discussed before I apologize!

To make a long story short...
I graduated from Wayne State University (in Michigan) and my UGPA is sh*t. This is not due to neglecting class, but due to the fact I was battling depression due to having cancer. I'm lucky to be in the clear now, but still dealing with my 2.5 UGPA (and that's not factoring in my W's and a few fails). Yes, I should have taken medical leave and whatnot, but it is what it is now.

I have taken the LSAT, and scored a 171. I want to stay within Michigan, but I guess I'm scared my only choice will be Cooley. I've read all the "don't go to a school you don't want to graduate from" posts, and a few of the success stories of their transfers.

I guess I'm just looking for any type of advice? Thanks in advance... :)
