General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: PREPPING FOR 1L -- HELP
« on: March 26, 2009, 09:56:34 PM »
Congrats Win and good luck...if you get into a T14 school definitely go there.  The little law school secret is that many tops schools are far less rigorous than many lower tiered schools that have much tougher curves.

In terms of prepping for law school; not everyone needs or wants to get an early jump on understanding their courses.  Some people can take the summer off before school, drink a lot of beer and do just fine.  However, if you're interested in getting a jump start and being able to walk into law school with a solid foundation to build on instead of wandering through the forest for the first month...then check us out at Nail Em'.

also some non-ABA schools would as well

Variations of all of the above are true.  Law school is more difficult because of the amount of material you're expected to have at your fingertips while simultaneously needing to be able to effectively talk about it.

Imagine needing to learn the vocab for three different languages all at the same time...that's what it's like.

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Re: Mercer Law vs. Penn State Law

Outside of the T14 schools ranking is really not that important.  Go with where you want to work and what will leave you will less debt upon graduation.

Acceptances / Re: Berkeley v. Georgetown
« on: March 26, 2009, 06:21:27 PM »
Don't necessarily choose Georgetown just because you want may want to work in DC.  Berkeley travels well (as can Chicago) and many D.C. employers are interested in folks from out of town schools.

Strongly recommend BOALT unless you're compelled for some other reason to go with the other two.

Echoing some of the sentiments above.  Employment upon graduation can also set you up for continued success down the road.  Debt and bar passage can be adjusted for down the road, but being employed upon graduation will pay dividends down the road.

Be careful in assessment of Law Schools as well.  Many schools like UDC had a much higher bar passage rate (90%) last year compared with more elite institutions like Georgetown right down the road.
