That's kinda disappointing about the University of Houston. They apparently didn't account for me in their evaluation. I should be able to raise that up a few spots...

I just made it through the application cycle with a nastier, much more recent criminal record. Your record is by no means prohibitive, but I would certainly advise applying to more schools than you would otherwise. I received quite a few acceptances, including one of my top choices from a solid Tier 1, but was rejected by a few other schools. I didn't have any success with T14s despite a competitve LSAT and GPA because of my record, probably. Check the state bar. Texas, for example, won't allow felons but is more forgiving of crimes involving chemical dependancy.
Where should I go next fall? / Re: Texas Tech (full scholarship) vs. Mighigan St. (full scholarship)« on: February 01, 2009, 05:01:17 PM »
For what it's worth, I attended Texas Tech for my undergrad and had an absolute blast. I'm from Austin, and it was a minor culture shock when I first arrived but you will quickly be surprised at what Lubbock has to offer. The nightlife is great- there's a very fun bar district right next to campus (though I realize there won't be as much time to enjoy this in law school), it's got all the amenitites that you'd need (mall, tons of restaurants). It's more cultural than you'd think. I saw off-broadway productions of Rent and Les Mis there. As another added bonus, I'm not sure of the gender of the OP but the women are out-of-this-world gorgeous. Do it!
Me me me!
From Austin, graduated from Tech undergrad Dec. 07. 3.45, 163 on my first LSAT but I'll probably get above the 168 range on my second test this Oct. I'm applying to UT Austin as well and that would be hard to turn down if I get accepted. I gotta say, though, with a young family to worry about it's all about the benjamins. I love Lubbock, and Tech could VERY easily pull me away from Austin if they came at me with a scholarship offer.
