Virginia requires that you live in state (and establish residency - lease, register to vote, register car, etc.) for one year without attending school in order to get in-state rates. Basically, they don't want you to move here just for school.

Think about it - this is the woman whose husband was sent to Nigeria to investigate whether they sold uranium to Iraq (which he found no evidence of). He publicly states that there was no evidence of this and therefore no evidence of Iraq having WMD's (and that Bush knew this) and then his wife is "mysteriously" outed as a CIA operative.
Wonder who might have been involved??? 3

I've thought about it quite a bit. Any extra money I can get to reduce my debt load will be helpful. I'm hoping to do some accounting work for my dad from home and if that doesn't work out then I'll try for a part-time accounting/bookkeeping job. With my experience I would hope to get at least $20/hour and only work about 10 hours per week.
During undergrad I worked as a library assistant/computer lab assistant at a local continuing education college (most of the classes were at night so I worked from 5pm to 10pm). The money wasn't great ($9/hr) but I didn't really have much to do so I could study or even bring in my laptop and watch DVD's. 4

Actually it looks like Loyola is beginning to implement wireless access. I'm not sure how much of the campus will be wireless by the fall, but at least it's a start.

I have a Dell right now, but it weighs over 10 lbs, so there's no way I'm lugging that back and forth to school. I haven't seen any information on deals through Loyola so you're probably better off going through UCLA. 5

I'm moving cross-country and planning a trip about 1 month prior to my move to find a place. I tried to internet search but I just didn't feel comfortable with that. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions for moving my stuff? I was originally going to ship it through my company (the guys I work with were going to build me a crate that I could put all my boxes in) but it looks like we'll be going out of business before I move (great timing, huh) so I need an alternate method. I'm not taking furniture but I've got at least 50 (maybe 75) boxes. I'd like to avoid hooking up a u-haul for a cross country trip.

I graduated last May - business school. I took several years off between high school and college plus i worked during college so I was a "non-traditional student." I've been working this past year to save up money for LS.
It's good that you've spent some time on the campus. I took several courses through Cont. Studies my first couple of years. It's a good (and cheap) way to get familiar with everything. I seem to recall seeing your stats somewhere - did you have a 160-something LSAT? I would think you'd be a shoe-in for UR. I've also heard of schools that WL people they don't think will come to their school (to help with their yield rate for US news rankings) regardless of how qualified they are. Have you done the whole "i really want to attend your school/this is why I think I could contribute to this school, etc?" Do you have a backup school? 8

Also born & raised here. Ready for a change. I think L.A. will provide that. UR has a great law school - I went to a few events they had while I was an undergrad. I've heard good things about their new dean (Richmond had an overhaul while I was there - the dean of every school was replaced during a 4-5 year time span). Have you heard anything from Richmond? I'm guessing by your post that you either haven't heard or are waitlisted. If you have any questions about the school and/or the campus feel free to ask. Good luck. 9

The rates are based on your credit. Just spoke with someone there and they require decent credit history and 2 years of previous work experience (full or part-time in any field). you do not have to continue working while in school and he also said you don't need proof of enrollment so you may be able to get money before schools starts - to help with the move. That's my main concern - since I'm moving to CA I anticipate quite a bit of expense in moving and getting an apartment. I'm in Richmond - went to UR for undergrad. Are you from VA? 10

I spoke with a rep from Bank One about the Education loan. She said that they do require 2 years of full-time or part-time work history and they "require" that you are able to continue working either part-time or full-time while in school (in the event that you drop out they won't to know that you will be able to pay back the debt). However they don't ask for any proof of that. They only ask for previous W-2's or recent pay-check stubs. I'm pretty fortunate in that I work for my father's company so I can continue to do some work while in school if need be. Perhaps you could work something out with your employer that will help with this or maybe even get a part-time job (like 5 hours/week). Worst case you could ask your parents to co-sign.
