Law School Admissions / Re: Woodruff Scholarship- Emory

I got a call this morning about the woodruff interview, but I missed the call. Word on the street (uh, someone on TLS) said there are 15 finalists and 5 people get it.

I withdrew last week- it's going to be supremely awkward to call them back tomorrow.

I don't know if it would work, but why don't you call and tell them you're really interested, but are in a financial situation where you need more money? It's not like they're going to revoke what they already gave you, and you might put yourself on the woodruff list (if you're not already.)

Also, I don't think you sound entitled, fwiw. These cycles are so predictable with admission and $ offers (with the exception of our friends in atlanta ::cough:: ) that it's fair be surprised when a school does something strange like this.

Emory YPs $ like NO ONE else I've seen- they are ridiculous. It was the same pattern last year, too, if you check LSN. I guess they just assume you aren't going to come if you have better offers, but I find it a little insulting. I don't see what the harm is in TRYING to get people to come- obviously you don't lose anything if they decline.

I sent in my withdrawal the day after I got my financial aid offer, which made me feel a little better. I thanked them for their financial aid offer...albeit slightly sarcastically (not that they would get that impression from my note though, as I tried not to be obviously snarky about it).

Don't worry Lucas, I'm sure you'll get some serious $ from Vandy, and nashvegas is just as exciting as the ATL, right?  8)

hm, thanks, I will definitely see what I can do...

haha, I know what you mean. It gets tempting when it takes them so long. But at least you still have hope- the not getting waitlisted yet could be a good sign, right?

That said, you probably WOULDN'T get zero money from CLS if you got into H/Y, so you should contact admissions and see what you can work out.

I actually think I might be in that situation- I have nowhere near the numbers for a Hamilton/Butler (also didn't get one with the admissions info, lol) and I don't see myself being able to talk my way into much financial aid.

As for your second paragraph, let me just say that you're already ahead of the game. When I dispense advice to students picking colleges, I make them read this column written by an acquaintance of mine:

That article was great- thanks for linking it!

Thanks for all your advice! I'm going to visit both, check out the strength of the program I'm interested in at both places, and make a decision based on that...On the plus side, I'm going to so many ASWs that I might not go to class at all in March. :D

Okay, I'm sorry if you guys have answered these questions before, but here goes. :)

What other schools were you choosing from, and why did you pick Columbia?

This may sound weird, but I know that after I was at undergrad for awhile I knew much better questions I could have asked freshmen at the schools when I was looking around. Aside from career placement, general student life, etc, which you guys seem to have covered pretty well, are there other questions we should be asking? Do you have general advice you feel like we should know?

congrats to the UVA and GW admits! :)

Have you sent fall grades already? That might be a good way for you to feel like you were doing something useful, and it definitely couldn't hurt to have them look at your file again.

Got it in the mail today. Was hoping for some money, but alas, I'm not worth much to the folks in New York, apparently.

Did you get the letter and the binder? My binder came first, so it's possible you just haven't gotten your $ yet, since it came separately in the letter.
