Law School Admissions / Re: Choices, Choices - A college freshman's question
« on: March 24, 2009, 07:16:53 AM »I mean, you really don't have to decide now. The kind of stuff I wanted to do when I was a freshman is so different from what I want to do now, and that was only three years ago. Think about that.
Someone I respect a lot once told me that his life philosophy has been to take all opportunities that open more doors than they close. There's no point of trying to figure out your life on 3 or 5 or 10 year tracks. Too many circumstances change - you change! Just take opportunities as they come.
Open doors for yourself by doing what you want to do - it's great that you're getting involved with these organizations and professors, but don't do it for a leg up in the admissions process, do it because it's what you think is fun and what you think could contribute to your growth.
I've seen so many people burn out who put themselves on these 5 year plans to success. It's not worth it. The people I know who are the most mature, who are the happiest, and interestingly enough, most successful, are those who pursued what they wanted to pursue, and didn't miss the trees for the forest.
