Current Law Students / Re: Are other 1Ls still waiting on grades?

I agree; it is absurd. It's been a MONTH since my first final, and nothing. I understand that it takes hours and hours to read a two page essay, but STILL. C'mon guys, it's been three weeks since finals ended.  >:(

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: How do I get out of ED
« on: December 20, 2009, 05:27:37 PM »
Don't they contact all law schools when you get accepted ED and tell them that you're taken?

Yes. I got a letter from Columbia saying they were withdrawing my application for me since XYZ had told them i'd been accepted early decision.

Stick to your decision. Lying at the beginning of your law school career is a bad move. Not only is it pretty certain they'll find out, but it's just a male private part move.

Well then ask him/her what he/she will be paying you. That makes more sense than asking an internet board. There's nothing you can do about the GPA to change it, obviously, but you could write an addendum when you apply. Something like "I was stupid, blah blah, I've matured, blah, it was four years ago, etc etc."

Things to consider:

1. You will put in long hours and a lot of work for 3 years. You have a baby.
2. You will go into debt roughly $30,000 - $150,000 unless you get a full ride somewhere. Unlikely to happen at a good school.
3. If you don't go to a really good school, you'll probably only be making $30,000 - $60,000 when you get out, and you'll have that crapload of debt to handle.

Just things to consider. If it's what you really want to do after mulling it over, then go for it. (no sarcasm)

Got into Penn this morning!

Welcome! You should totally come here. We rock.

I'm thinking that I will!

Hurray! Let me know if you have any questions or anything. We have finals right now (shoot me) but I'd be happy to talk it up.

How pregnant? A month? Two? Eight?

How are you getting job offers if NALP prohibits employers from contact before Dec. 1?

Yes.

Unfortunately yes, it will make a big difference. Law is still an old school profession, and regardless of whether it's correct anymore the old classifications are still very much in place. Call it a glass ceiling, of sorts.
