I don't think I have a good Texas Family Law Outline up yet though.  I am sorry about that.  Hopefully I'll get a bigger supply of outlines as more people find out about the site.

Some days I didn't study at all, some days I studied for like 12 hours straight. 

How much you study should depend on your preferred study-style, setting, etc.  Approach studying like a game.  Plan the best way to maximize your study time and always plan for finals instead of planning for class.

Don't worry about what classes to take.  It doesn't really matter.  Just take stuff that you are interested in and you know you can get good grades in.  At law school there are everything from music/dram majors to engineering majors.  It really doesn't matter unless you want to specialize in something that requires a particular background.  For example if you want to practice medical law you might need a medical background in order for you to get a job in that field, or to work on patents you need a technical background.  I took philosophy, pyschology and political science classes at college and nothing in particular in high school.

My 1L outlines were typically very long, like up to 50 pages, but then close to exam time I would create shorter versions for quicker studying and referencing for open book tests.  It really just depends on what you are using the outline for.  If you are like me and didn't do class reading at all and did the PLS method instead, outlines are your meat to study so they need to be hearty.  I also think that it depends on your memory.  I never liked to abbreviate too much because I was afraid I'd forget the points I wanted to remember.  But, if you have a great memory, shorter may be better.
