Current Law Students / Mistake on Cover Letter
« on: July 30, 2008, 06:51:44 AM »
In a cover letter submitted through an online job posting site, I misspelled the word innovative as "innovate".  Is this worth worrying about?  Should I contact the recruiter and give her a corrected cover letter?

Current Law Students / Acceptable Salary to Debt Ratio
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:38:52 AM »
Assuming I take the job I am summering at right now, I will be making $80k in a secondary market.  Definitely not amazingly high, but I am very young and I've never had a job where I wasn't paid hourly.

However, I will also have about $110k of debt.  Is is still possible to purchase a home on this salary and debt?  Still possible to keep my head above water?

I just don't understand how people coming out of UG with debt can saddle law school debt on top of it.

I was told I need to get a gift for my secretary this summer.  What should I get?  Should I also get one for my mentor?

Thanks

Current Law Students / Interview as 3L after Rejection as 2L
« on: July 08, 2008, 09:18:18 AM »
Last OCI period I had a callback at a firm that I loved.  The callback was in later October, and toward the end they seemed to suggest that they were basically waiting to here back from offers they already made.  Nonetheless, within a week I got a ding.

Now the firm is accepting resumes from 3Ls for positions as associates.

Should I even bother sending one?  If so, in my cover letter should I mention that I already had a callback there?

Thanks.

Current Law Students / What counts as a "Publication" on a resume
« on: March 04, 2008, 12:36:57 PM »
Could I put something that I wrote and was then put up on the law school's website as a publication?  It was research I had done on a legal issue for a professor.

Or is the "Publications" section limited to law journal articles?

Thanks

Current Law Students / Summer Wardrobe
« on: January 08, 2008, 07:46:54 PM »
I will working as a summer associate at a firm that requires me to wear a suit everyday.  I only own two suits as of right now.  One is charcoal with thin white pinstripes, the other is navy pinstriped.  What other type of suits should I purchase to have a full wardrobe for this summer?
