Choosing the Right Law School / Re: UPenn ASW 2007

I couldn't go to the ASW in 2006 (when I was admitted), so I deferred for a year just to to this one ;). See you all soon.

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Penn $$ vs. Georgetown $$$
« on: March 13, 2007, 10:48:38 PM »
To the OP:

I had the same choice to make - full tuition at Georgetown and Penn-Levy Scholarship at Penn (and Columbia/staying on Harvard waitlist). I ultimately accepted Penn's scholarship and deferred it for a year.

It's a pretty tough choice, but I thought Penn's atmosphere, higher ranking, Penn-Levy mentoring and proximity to New York beat out Gtown extra money. I also got the sense that G-town was a bit more competitive for my tastes. PM me if you want to hear more specifics.

I just sent in a letter saying what I've maintained all along, that HLS is my one true love. Although I accept the possibility that HLS just might not be that into me, I'm hoping that Toby et al might turn around and say, "I feel the same way! Let's not fight any more!"

Doing the same (kinda).  Decided to stay on the WL because I'm a masochist and all....I need SOMETHING to obsess over this summer

Was waitlisted. Am not going to stay on it. I'm definitely working next year and I"m happy to be going to Penn on a scholarship afterwards. Good luck to you all.

I picked Penn over Columbia and NYU. Don't think the quality of the education is any less, but it felt really collegial when i visited, lots of people would take time away from studying to talk to me and show me around. Plus Philly's a lot cheaper to live in than NY.

Just wanted to say "Hi" - I'm joining you guys, but deferring a year for a fulbright/work.  So, uh, i'll go through OneHell when you guys are getting to the good parts. Whatever, see you guys in Philly!

I"m deferring for a year too, and am close to being your numbers twin. See you next year!

I'm officially going to Penn! I made the choice about a week ago.

The choice was Penn (Penn-Levy Scholarship), Georgetown (Dean's Scholarship), Columbia and NYU.

I'm deferring for a year to work in a trial-oriented law firm, and then joining Penn's class of '10.

I loved my visit there - everyone was friendly (as advertised) and I liked the overall University campus as well.

I know that in the same cycle you can accept an offer, and then go to a different school, just losing your deposit. Is the same true for deferring a year, and then applying to other schools that rejected you?

Penn.

"Plan B: Georgetown, which is a "Law Center," a failed euphemism if ever there was one."

Wow that's pretty acerbic. Still not sure what specifically she hated about Georgetown.
