Wait List / Re: Chapman/Southwestern Waitlist« on: July 20, 2009, 11:38:52 PM »Yeah, I'm on the waitlist at Southwestern and it's really frustrating, cause if I don't get in there, I have to go to Michigan, which is a good school, but I'm from LA and I went to USC, which is down the street from Southwestern, so I'm completely familiar with the area. I sent them my withdrawal not too long ago, so good luck! 3
1L job search / Re: Summer abroad or work/externship?« on: June 29, 2009, 02:45:45 PM »Ask yourself this simple question... when going for that interview against many other similarly situated candidates, what's going to make you more interesting to the interviewer... that you actually attained some practial experience doing legal work or that you took a few classes while enjoying a european vacation? Thanks for the very helpful insight. The program abroad is actually far from a European vacation (third world Southeast Asian countries), but I see your point nonetheless. Thanks for the perspective! 4

I've seen so many people, myself included, afraid or hesitant to ask their supervisors for feedback for a variety of reasons, when in most cases, supervisors are happy to take a few minutes to give some kind of feedback if they're reminded to do it. What are those reasons exactly? I've always been someone who asked for feedback, so is it really that intimidating in that kind of setting? 5

If my goal is BigLaw and/or a judicial clerkship, is it a bad idea to do a summer abroad program as opposed to pursuing an externship or a work opportunity? I do plan on working during my 2L summer, but I'd really like to spend my 1L summer abroad for an academic program. I know summers are really important for work experience, so would I be screwing myself over? I've been getting mixed responses about this... what do you guys think?
