Current Law Students / Re: Serious Problem

The nice thing about South Texas and Southern is they specialize in finding decent lawyers from the pool of Texas applicants who couldn’t get into Texas, Baylor, SMU, or Houston.  This pool includes a lot of bright people who may have a tarnished academic record (for whatever reason).  They do look at factors beyond the GPA/LSAT table.  Those scores are of course important, but they may not be the dispositive factor that they are elsewhere.  Another school you may want to try right now is St. Mary’s.  It used to be a great school that turned out plenty of sharp Texas litigators, but it took a nose dive in recent years (due in large part to poor leadership and faculty-hiring decisions) and now they are in a kind of rebuilding mode.  Anyway, my point is that at these smaller, “less-prestigious” schools, GPA and LSAT are not the Alpha-Omega they are at others.  Good luck!

Baylor / Re: Admitted Students Day

Hey.  I'm a 6th qtr, and I don't know if Admitted Students' Day has passed yet, but here's the rundown.  The day is basically a tour of the school and a handshaker with a few of the faculty members.  You get to sit in on a class, and they'll feed you.  I went (way back when) because I thought it was required, and looking back, it's probably a waste of time if you have something better to do, unless you are really unsure about Baylor as a choice of law school.  The real the purpose of the day is to try to persuade the better potential students to choose Baylor over other close schools like SMU or even UT.  If you haven’t seen the law school, it’s a nice tour of a nice building.  If you are weighing Baylor against some other school(s), the closer look is probably worth the time.  But, if you know you’re going to Baylor, and you have better things to do that day, don’t bother.
