Where should I go next fall? / Southwestern 1L taking questions
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:46:06 PM »
Hey all,

I remember how stressful this time was last year, so I thought I'd do my mitzvah for the day and see if I could answer any questions about my school... So anyone?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Los Angeles Housing
« on: July 20, 2007, 10:03:46 PM »
Ok, so here's the deal.  I just got off the waitlist at Southwestern yesterday, and I have 2-3 weeks to get everything together and move out to LA.  Also, I can't visit before picking housing, and yeah, that is scaring the hell out of me.

I need to live someplace affordable (under 850 a month) that is safe-ish and near-ish to school (with public transportation).

Does anyone have any insight or need a roommate?  My friends were going to move with me, but circumstances changed...and now I'm still ecstatic to get in but scared.

I've used Craiglist, and I'm getting nowhere.

Does anyone know the names of reputable apartment complexes?

THANKS

General Off-Topic Board / Buying a puppy
« on: July 08, 2007, 01:54:58 AM »
Hello,

If I take a year off, I plan on buying a puppy so we can adjust to eachother before I'm a 1L.   I'm looking at getting a Shih Tzu or a Lhasa Apso (the breeds I had growing up).  While I'd love to get a rescue dog, most of the dogs in the local shelters are rather large animals which is not an option as I live in an apartment. Anyone have advice on how to find a breeder and a healthy dog?  I want to make sure that I don't get a dog coming from a puppy mill.

Thanks...

Where should I go next fall? / When will you give up on waitlists?
« on: June 29, 2007, 10:06:48 PM »
I set myself a deadline of when I will stay in the town I am in and take time off if I am not admitted off waitlists: July 16th.  I figure I need that much time to move, get loans together, etc before the first orientation of August 13th on the other side of the country.  Also, I'd need to find a new place to live here and sign a lease if I stay... I don't know who is able to stay up until the day of classes; maybe it is those who already live in the same area as their waitlisted schools.

So here is my question... are others setting deadlines of when if their waitlist dreams don't happen, they will stay at their deposit school or take a year (or more) off?

Sorry... waiting every day hoping for any kind of communication is torture... EVERY thread being about people freaking out about what minute their scores will be released is starting to get to me, especially considering that they know they will get them today or at the latest Monday.   Stop creating 80 threads talking about it. 5 threads or so on the same subject will work.  For many of you, the suffering ends today or at least a new form of agony begins...

Wait List / What time of day are people getting waitlist decisions???
« on: June 28, 2007, 01:52:48 PM »
Hey,

For those of you who have received phone calls or emails from waitlisted schools, what time of day are you getting them?  Morning?  Right before 5 pm?

THANKS.

Wait List / Waitlist song of the day
« on: June 21, 2007, 03:00:23 PM »
Ok, so today, I was listening to my ipod.  Halifax's cover of "Straight Up" came on, and all of the lyrics are waitlist relevant. Check them out... anyone else have songs that remind you of this?

Lost in a dream
Don't know which way to go
If you are all that you seem
Then baby I'm movin' way too slow

I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
How about some information--please

[Chorus:]
Straight up now tell me
Do you really want to love me forever oh oh oh
Or am I caught in a hit and run

Straight up now tell me
Is it gonna be you and me together oh oh oh
Are you just having fun

Time's standing still
Waiting for some small clue
I keep getting chills
When I think your love is true

I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
How about some information--please

[Chorus:]
Straight up now tell me
Do you really want to love me forever oh oh oh
Or am I caught in a hit and run
Straight up now tell me
Is it gonna be you and me together oh oh oh
Are you just having fun

You are so hard to read
You play hide and seek
With your true intentions
If you're only playing games
I'll just have to say--bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye

Do do you love me
Do do you love me
Do do you love me
Do do you love me ?

I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
Are you more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history-book

I don't mean to make demands
But the word and the deed go hand in hand
How about some information--please

[Chorus cont.]

I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
In the slammin' door
Are you more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history-book
I don't mean to make demands
But the word and the deed go hand in hand
How about some information--please

Wait List / How long after final deposits do schools go to waitlists?
« on: June 20, 2007, 12:10:03 AM »
Ok,

So how long after the second deposit does it take for schools to heavily turn to waitlists?  Is it a couple days or a couple weeks?

Thanks!!!

Wait List / How to keep sanity during waitlist purgatory
« on: June 18, 2007, 10:21:39 AM »
Okay, so I am beginning to lose my mind.  I will be confident I am getting off waitlists for  a day or two, and then I will go back to being f-ing terrified.  Passing time is so difficult because while I want time to speed up so that I can hear back, I don't want it to go too quickly to where it's a few days before classes start and I still haven't hear back.    I try going online, but that doesn't help. I've tried knitting, but that brings my mind back to whether or not I will be in a cold climate in the fall.

I'm going absolutely batty, and my friends can't stand to be around me anymore.  My boring desk job drags on, and I can't find things to do online that are non-law school related to occupy my time.  BAHH.

With June 15th deposit deadlines at both schools I'm waiting on, it is really putting me on edge.

Anyone have any thoughts on how we should all retain our relative sanity while waiting on these schools?

Thanks for the help.

Personal Statement / If Reapplying, Need new PS?
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:35:58 AM »
Hey all,

I might be retaking the LSAT in September and reapplying (depending what happens with my waitlists).  Depending on my score, I would probably apply to DePaul, Loyola Marymount, Chicago-Kent, Hastings (if I did exceptionally well), American, and Southwestern.  (Southwestern, Kent, and DePaul I would be reapplying to.)  Now, it took me forever to come up with a personal statement.  If I reapply, do I have to submit a different PS?  I have no idea what I'd write... want to think of this now because I'd want to go complete the minute my Sept. scores went out.

Thanks.
