Where should I go next fall? / Penn vs. NYU: Help needed!
« on: April 13, 2006, 06:01:36 PM »
Ok, so I went to go see NYU a while ago and thought it was great.  I didn't love it, but thought the school was very pretty.  I LOVE the city. Then later I went to see UPenn.  Although the area west of the school is kind of shady, I liked the law school and felt very comfortable there.  The undergrad campus, btw, was beautiful (I thought).

So NYU gave me 37500 and Penn gave me 47000, plus the 6000 perkins loan which helps cut down on private loans (it's also cheaper).  I don't have any strong feelings about what I want to do, but am thinking mostly about international and/or business law. Philly is an ok place to live and I like the idea of having a more spacious apartment for cheaper than I would get in NYC, but I like the idea of living close to campus and not having to go across the city to my place (which I would do at NYU).

Part of me thinks that I would do better at Penn.  Is this crazy?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Law School Applications / LSAC Processing Updated Transcripts
« on: January 03, 2006, 03:46:24 PM »
Has anyone sent LSAC an updated transcript and had it processed already? If so, how long did it take? I imagine they are super backed up around now...

...if not, how long have those been waiting who have already sent it in?

General Off-Topic Board / The Battle of the Sexes Game thread
« on: December 12, 2005, 09:50:12 PM »
Here's how it works...

I'll start this off by asking a two questions, one 'male' and one 'female'. You show everyone how much you know about the opposite sex.

Rules: (1) no looking crap up on line.  If you do, Jebus will know and, well he'll take away your points.

Also, if you are ultra-sensative about being PC and all that jazz, you should get off this board...for your own safety, of course.

Male Q: What became known as the 'Dead Man's Hand'?

Female Q: What are classified as soft furnishings?

Acceptances / Cornell
« on: December 02, 2005, 02:29:28 PM »
I posted this on the applications board as well, but I'm hoping people here may have seen this as well.

Ok, so I know the Cornell status checker thing has been off lately. But now my file says this:

    Your application's current status is:

Decision   The Admissions Committee has reached decision on your application file and you will receive a written decision soon. Please be patient with the postal system. Please wait for 10 to 14 days to receive your written decision before contacting the Admissions Office.

I'm freaking out!  It's taking everthing inside me not to walk over to the law school and asking for my decision....anyone else getting this message?

Law School Applications / Northwestern...
« on: November 28, 2005, 11:35:19 AM »
...so the online status checker-thing says we should get responses back 6-8 wks after we go complete.  Many of us are in that 6-8 wk period right now, and although there was an 11/15 admit last year on LSN, the first batch came in the first few days of December.

Does this work like unofficial early action? Meaning, people may get initial responses of holds, and then later get another decision?

Law School Applications / Acceptance calls from Boalt
« on: November 21, 2005, 03:51:34 PM »
Just got a call from the dean of admissions at Boalt to notify me of my acceptance.  Has anyone else been called?  My birthday was yesterday, so I thought it was my grandmother calling to complain that I never called her back, so initially I wasn't going to pick up the phone.  But I'm glad I did...or rather, that I forced my roommie to  ;)
