Law School Applications / Should i even bother now?
« on: July 05, 2005, 12:18:54 PM »
I had to make a call to check on a change in an application fee for a school I am applying to... long story short, since I was rejected by this school before and I wanted to know the exact reasons (i knew, but I wanted to hear it from them)..So I asked, and the gentleman who answered the phone looked up my file (I assumed it was an admissions assistant), and started asking me pointed questions-- almost like an interview.. I was caught so off-guard, and I even said, "I wasn't prepared to have this long of a conversation (I am at work)" Well, it turns out it was the DEAN of admissions (why he was answering the phones, I don't know)..

I felt like I kind of babbled, saying things like "I want this, I KNOW I can do this- I have the drive, yada, yada, yada" He said he was going to look up my file and get back to me (who knows)...

I feel so stupid because 1.)I had no idea I would be talking to the dean directly, and 2.)felt like I groveled... He seemed very nice on the phone- I got no "vibe" from him either way..

Should I even bother re-applying now? He "knows" who I am...

Studying for the LSAT / 3rd times a charm?
« on: June 30, 2005, 12:23:59 PM »
I've decided to re-take the October LSAT while my spring application is pending for a local t4 school..

I am either really committed to being a lawyer, or am a massachist.. I haven't decided yet..

I also have to keep this secret from my family/roommate/friends, as they have begged me not to do this again...(That's why I am telling people on here)

This time I am going to get those bibles everyone talks about on here, and I may check out testmasters180..

Let the games begin!!

Studying for the LSAT / So what went wrong
« on: June 27, 2005, 02:44:19 PM »
With all this discussion about retakes and the scale, I need to ask if anyone can tell me what went wrong in my case...

Long story short-
Been out of school since 1997..decided in November to take the Feb. LSAT, so I took a prep course (Kaplan), scored a 145 on my diag., juggled studying and work, and finally, in Feb I scored a 146. I personally thought the test was very difficult, so I was pretty grateful for that...

I decided to retest, believing I could do better. Retook Kaplan (admittedly, mistake #1), but felt I had a better teacher. I also lost my job, so I was able to dedicate a month to studying and taking prep tests. I believe I took 10 tests. My highest was a 153, lowest was a 146.. I thought the June LSAT was "easier", as most feel on this board, and was expecting a mid-150's score (I am just shooting for a local t4 school, then plan on tranferring up)...

Well, I scored a 143 on the real thing.. Needless to say I was shocked/stunned/flabbergasted...

I refuse to give up... I am going to apply for the spring semester with my 146 as a part time student (i have been working for nearly a decade, so I hope that will help), but my ego was bruised...

Dare I ask-- should I retake in october?? I think I could get in part time in the spring, but want to have a back up plan in case....

Thanks

Studying for the LSAT / Cheers LSDers (and June LSAT survivors)
« on: June 27, 2005, 09:52:51 AM »
Hey, to all the LSD regulars and LSAT class of June--
Hope you all did well (and as I read some of your posts I see some of you did :)!! This scale was killer, as I fell victim to it (still cleaning up the blood!!) but be proud, no matter what you scored, as merely taking the LSAT is an acheivement.. I will still be around but I wanted to make sure I wished you all the best in your ls journeys....

Cheers--

Studying for the LSAT / Self-depricating humor LR
« on: June 23, 2005, 04:12:07 PM »
Sorry if this one has been beaten to death, but I missed the posts if it has..

I put the answer that said something like "confuses what is self-depricating as humor" (????) The answer sounded something like that-- sorry, memory is fuzzy-- its been a while...

Does that sound like what is considered correct??

If it's good- my dad
If it's bad- my roommate (over several drinks)
