General Off-Topic Board / What would you do for summer?
« on: May 04, 2006, 07:08:19 PM »
I am going to be doing one of these for 10 days but my friends and I are still torn between the options. I sort of want to do the Mexico and Venezuela trip because I think our dollar would go the farthest in both contries and we would have a blast. The price may actually go down depending on the type of hotel we choose to stay at and how much money we spend a night. Also, out of the 4 friends only 2 speak Spanish, 1 speaks French, 1 speaks Arabic, and 1 speaks Japanese.

I am doing a paper on the misrepresentation of Africans in the US media focusing on the film industry. However, I have to find a movie that wrongfully depicts Africans in a variety of ways. I have read a couple of articles and scholarly journals and a common movie is Tarzan but does anybody know a very recent movie? I also have to do a presentation and I want my class to realize that Africa has a variety of cultures, cities, and history. I want my class to see past the National Geographic pictures of half naked women with neck rings (I am not sure what those neck things are called). Furthermore, even if they do see that image, I want them to notice that it is a part of that personís culture and has some symbolic meaning. I guess I am asking for this:
1) Movies that you think wrongfully depict Africans;
2) Movies that you think rightfully depict Africans;
3) Some common misperceptions that have been attributed to you or Africa by the media (ie Africa is a backward continent).

Thanks for you help in advance

Where should I go next fall? / Where would you go?

I am still undecided as to whether I want to do big law or not. However, I am really interested in international law and hope to play an influential role in Mexican politics one day. I am guessing that Cornell would provide me with the most tools needed to succeed in the international arena. However, what do you guys think? Should I just stop my bitching and go to Cornell?

I really liked reading this article about three adopted african american kids with two white parents growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. Here is the link:

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / Bostonians, I have a question
« on: February 23, 2006, 09:10:03 PM »
I am going to BC's admitted students day in April and need to stay at a hotel. However, what is a nice area of Boston to stay in for the weekend? I am from California and do not want to stay in Boston's version of Compton. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did you guys receive any scholarships with your acceptance letters? Does any body know if scholarship offers come with the rest of the fin aid package? I am wondering because I got money from UIUC but have not received any love from Fordham or Boston College.

Thanks in advance.

General Off-Topic Board / New Bond Lady
« on: February 17, 2006, 03:34:04 PM »
What do you guys think of the new Bond lady? Her name is Eva Green and she is very attractive. In some pictures she looks drop dead hot but in others she is average compared to the other Bond girls.
