General Board / Is Batman the best superhero ever?
« on: July 11, 2005, 11:32:42 PM »
Batman is sweet.  He has cool gadgetry and is the everyman of Superheroes.  He possesses no superpower, yet he still manages to wipe out crime throughout Gotham City.  If you disagree, present your case for a better superhero.

Duquesne U / Getting a Job
« on: July 05, 2005, 01:09:52 AM »
I read the general board about summer employment, and I have a few questions that I hope to get some insight on from Duquesne students who have already gone through the process.  I am especially interested in OCI, which I have been told is very important.

When does Duq's OCI program occur?  How many firms participate?  Do most firms limit their interview process to a certain group (law review, top 1/3, etc.)?

Last year, what percentage of Duq. 2Ls (roughly) had summer jobs lined up by the end of OCI?

If a student does not get a job through OCI, how difficult is it too land a paying job?  Does Career Services assist in this?  If they do, are they more helpful than they are during first year?

Any info would be appreciated.

Duquesne U / going to Duquesne
« on: April 05, 2004, 08:19:34 PM »
Is anyone out there going to Duquesne?  I am visiting their campus next week and will be looking at housing options, sitting in on a class, and interviewing with the director of admissions (not sure what I am interviewing for, though).  Anyways, just wanted to see if anyone else out there is headed to Pittsburgh next year.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / roommate wanted
« on: April 18, 2004, 08:34:44 PM »
Hi everybody,

I have decided to attend Duquesne Law School in Pittsburgh, PA.  I visited the school and the city for the first time last week, and I was very impressed.  I am posting because I would like to put the word out that I am seeking a roommate.  Duquesne's list of students who are seeking roommates won't be available until mid-May.

I put a deposit down on a 5th floor apartment in Mount Washington, which is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh that overlooks the city's downtown area.  The law school is a ten minute drive away.  If you are looking for a roommate for law school and will be attending Duquesne or Pitt, you might want to check it out.  The apartment is a 2 bedroom/2 bath.  I am a 22 year old male and would prefer to live with another first year Duquesne student.

Wait List / marquette wait list
« on: March 15, 2004, 09:36:16 PM »
After many anxious weeks, I finally found out this evening that I was "deferred" at Marquette, my number one choice, ALMOST 2 MONTHS ago!  Evidently, their deferral letter was "lost in the mail" (wink, wink).  Anyways, I'm pissed off because I thought I was still in the running for acceptance.  I know that technically I am not out, but I also know that if they really wanted me, I would have been accepted; few people get accepted off the waiting list.  I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm just a bit annoyed.  Looks like Duquesne University!

Where should I go next fall? / thumbs down from syracuse
« on: March 07, 2004, 10:29:18 PM »
After months of waiting, I finally received word from Syracuse University, one of my top three choices...and I got the thumbs down!  I was pretty sure I would get accepted there.  My GPA and LSAT were at or above their medians, and I had lots of extra-curriculars and great essays/letters.  I'm kind of confused about the whole thing.  Anyways, just wanted to communicate with other posters, I hope you guys have luck.  I am now down to pretty much Duquesne, although I got accepted at 4 tier 4s.  I am still waiting to hear from Marquette, which is my top choice because of their sports law program.  It's looking more and more like Pittsburgh for me...

Where should I go next fall? / just because i'm curious...
« on: February 08, 2004, 11:06:54 AM »
I have already filled out all of my apps for Fall 04.  I had a 153 and a 3.5 from a respected private liberal arts college in the northeast.  In addition, I have numerous extra-curriculars (captain of the football team, VP of fraternity, etc.)  What I want to know is if anyone can give me suggestions on where they think I should have applied so that I can compare them to where I did apply.  I know it's kind of besides the point now, but I am just curious.  Thanks!

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / is the lsat a load of crap or what?
« on: February 07, 2004, 02:14:30 AM »
My thinking is that law schools would consider a person's gpa a more accurate indicator of a person's chances for success in law school than the lsat.  The GPA is a reflection of four (or more) years of hard work; the lsat score is a reflection of one four-hour test.  Many posters on this site claim that they have lsat scores in the 160s with a gpa of 3.1 or so.  The type of natural intellect required to score in the 160s on the lsat should allow a student to easily manage a gpa of 3.5 or higher.  This tells me that many people with a high lsat were NOT consistently hard workers in college; how can law schools overlook this when deciding who gets in and who doesn't??  Anybody else have an opinion on this?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Anyone in at Duquesne?
« on: February 07, 2004, 01:58:04 AM »
I was recently accepted at Duquesne with a 153/3.5.  Is anybody else considering Duquesne or heard anything good/bad about it?
