General Off-Topic Board / What Are You Reading?

Okay, so let's share what we've been reading as of late. Hopefully we can talk about something that doesn't turn into political idiocy or mudslinging like so many threads have become as of late.
Jack Kerouac - On the Road
I read Big Sur a few years back and wasn't particularly impressed with Kerouac's literary style. Hopefully this one's a little better. I'm only like 20 pages in so far, so I'm unable to tell.
Hunter S. Thompson - The Rum Diary
After he died a couple of months ago I decided to pick up one of his books again (I've read almost all of them). This is a great book that really captures the insanity of living on the fringe of society in a foreign place. Thompson's writing is visceral, but somehow eloquent and intellectual at the same time.
Chuck Palahniuk - Invisible Monsters
For those of you who don't know him, Palahniuk wrote Fight Club. If you've seen or read Fight Club, then you know what kind of a writer he is. His books are rife with critiques of American society. I guess I didn't like the book mainly because of this. He doesn't reveal his opinions very tactfully or subtly. They're loud and messy like a bull in a china shop. There were some interesting twists, but all-in-all I wouldn't recommend the book.
