Transferring / Transferring to a high Tier 1 from a low Tier 1
« on: February 21, 2006, 10:57:27 PM »
So I currently go to a low ranked Tier 1 on the east coast and am seriously considering going back to California.  I like my school but the more I think about it longterm I want a job in California.  I'm currently in about the top quarter of my class (and just didn't make moot court boo!) what are my chances of making it into UCLA or USC?  Is there really any point in trying.  I'm debating whether to study abroad this summer and if I did I couldn't transfer so I'm trying to decide what to do.

General Board / Living in DC

I have a question for current students in DC.  I'm going to American next year and want to live in a group house sort of situation.  I'm goign to American and am hoping to live in the area.  Will everything be gone if I start look in July?  Or is the housing market not too bad. And just generally is living with other law students a good or bad idea?  I was also thinking of maybe getting with some Georgetown studnets because its not too far and it might be nice to meet some people outside of my own law school.

American / Housing
« on: April 15, 2005, 01:16:37 AM »
I'm a little worried about finding a place to live.  How is everyone else doing it?  I want to get a place for August 1st, but I'm a little worried a lot of the places will have been taken before that.  Any ideas.  I'm leavin CA around June 30th and will probably spend July in NJ, so I could drive down for a couple days now and then to look at places.  Does anyone know how tight the housing market is?  In my town the summer months can be really rough if you don't get in early.

Alright I finally bit the bullet and sent in my deposit to American today.  So now I gotta figure out how to move all my stuff and car out to DC.  I'm definitely sending my car, but to be honest my furniture isn't that great.  All IKEA, I have a nice mattress and a nice (non IKEA) futon couch.  Anyone no any cheap and honest movers for my stuff or my car?  I'm seriously thinking about selling all my stuff (excluding electronics obviously) and just shipping my car full of stuff and UPSing the excess.  Anyone done this before, any good ideas or suggestions?  Thanks!

Where should I go next fall? / American and Living in DC

I pretty much had decided on Loyola until I visited American and now I love it, but I still have big reservations about moving to the other side of the country and I love California and don't want to leave, but I can't quite make that my only reason to stay.  Is American as great as it sounds (and I know some of you hate American, but with all their clinics, study abroad, journals, working on the hill and massive list of classes it really appealed to me) and will DC be a pain to live in?  I'm really torn.  Kind of leaning towards American, but part of me is having a hard time accepting I may never come back to California (there is a pretty good chance that after I established myself in DC I wouldn't want to get up and move).  And while Loyola is a good school I can't think of anything really great about it, programs, etc..  Opinions please!

Where should I go next fall? / USD Sucks

I finally broke down emailed U of San Diego about my application, I shouldn't have much problem getting in there and I applied in November.  I said in the letter I would have to be making a decision for other schools very soon or I wouldn't be asking.  I got the following email three days later.

We are in the process of completing application in order to send them to
committee and we are unable to do individual application status checks. We
will notify you if there is anything further that we need to complete your
application or if there is anything else that the committee needs. If we requested your LSAC report, your application is considered complete. If we have not requested your LSAC report, please contact us by phone.
You could receive a decision letter any time between now and May.
We understand that you need a decision soon so that you can choose a school, but we are unable to do so. We are trying to get the majority of decision letters out in April.
We recommend all applicants put down at least one deposit at another school.
Thank you for your understanding,
 USD Law School Admissions

We recommend you put down a deposit so I can wait around for them to maybe make a decision by May,  screw you USD.  If they treat me like this while I'm applying how the hell will I be treated as a student.  I'm sorry, for me to even consider them at this point they'd have to give me a full ride, forget it, this is a joke.

Law School Rankings / What schools are underrated by US News?
« on: March 14, 2005, 01:14:19 AM »
What schools are underrated by the US News rankings?  I know they are horribly biased and all that, but what schools do you think are better regarded, better prepare you, that sort of thing than their ranking would indicate.  Or have qualities not put into the equation for US News that make the school better than their rank.

I was thinking about Northeastern, which I think is probably underrated as they tend to downplay LSAT/GPA a little in their admissions which would bring down their ranking.  I really like the school, but have gotten into a couple of much better ranked schools (Loyola and American) and am having a hard time not going for the better ranked schools.

I'm kind of worried.  I've heard from nearly all my schools and according to my stats and my other acceptances I really shouldn't have a problem getting in, but I haven't heard anything at all.  I submitted my app electronically, so I know they received it and it's complete.  I applied in Nov.  I heard that their deadline for acceptances is April 1st, so I don't know what is going on.  Would it be ok to email them, just to ask when I can expect a decision?

Where should I go next fall? / American Law School?

What is the general opinion on American Law School?  Reputation/job wise and also general student life.  I know it's in GW and Georgetown's shadow even though it's a pretty high ranked school.
