Choosing the Right Law School / SMU needs to rethink its attitude
« on: May 02, 2005, 05:04:47 PM »
I knew SMU was to send all acceptances by last week, but I did not get anything and I gave them a call this afternoon.

me: "Hello, I was wondering if I could check the status of my application."
smu:   (in an angry tone) "all decisions were mailed last week. you should have it. check your mail."
me: "I did check my mail and I knew they were mailed last week, so I called today to be sure there was no problem or delay."
smu:   (more annoyed sounding) "you should have it, check your mail, you probably missed it."
me: "no ma'am, it wasnt there. I dont mean to be a bother, I just wanted to be sure there was not a problem or anything..."
 smu:  click

I am sure it is a good school and I am happy for the people who want to go there, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. Not only do they wait until May to send out decisions, but they are completely rude and sound angry when they answer the phone. not necessary in my opinion.

Law School Admissions / new idea for apps and fees
« on: April 25, 2005, 02:02:49 PM »
So what if the entire process was changed a little so that you paid the application fee, but if you withdrew your app before you were notified of a decision, the school would refund your money (or some of it at least)...use the application fee as an encouragement to make the process more efficient (both schools and applicants)
it would encourage schools to process applications quickly...or at least not delay for months
it would encourage applicants to notify schools of their decisions, freeing up spaces for other candidates and reducing the work done by adcoms

obviously it would be near impossible to implement, but its an idea at least

any thoughts?

Choosing the Right Law School / SMU and GSU sloooooow
« on: April 20, 2005, 10:47:57 AM »
I've been complete at these schools for quite a while...a couple of months and i havent heard anything. GSU's status check still says complete and ready for review. Are they just incredibly slow or should I give them a call to see what is going on?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / BU Ding
« on: April 13, 2005, 08:51:05 AM »
Got my ding from BU today...was one of my favored schools, but I wasnt too surprised by the ding.

I also figured out why it took so long for them to notify me...they had used the wrong address on the labels they made. My contact info and my address on the letter were correct, but their lables had a typo in the number and that boxholder was pretty slow at returning the mail (though im glad s/he did at all)

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / UGA WL
« on: April 13, 2005, 08:48:48 AM »
Online status check said application had been reviewed without a decision...waitlist materials in the mail.

UGA was my top choice so its a little disappointing, but my brother was waitlisted too and then accepted in the summer, so there is still hope.

Choosing the Right Law School / Waiting at BU
« on: April 12, 2005, 02:45:54 PM »
Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from BU? I know their first set of deposits are due Friday for those who heard by April 1st and if you dont hear by April 1st you have 2 weeks from your acceptance date... Do they have an active wait list, or do they wait until the 15th and then send out some more notifications to those still pending without going through the process of officially waitlisting them (making them wait instead of waitlisting them)?

I guess it isnt all that important, but I applied end of January and all I have gotten is the complete notice a while back. Anyone else still waiting for something from them?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Columbia ding
« on: April 08, 2005, 09:24:41 AM »
got the no ("unable to take favorable action") today...but a ding from Columbia is the only thing i have been sure about since starting biggie

slightly concerned with the trend i see
first few weeks acceptances
nothing for a few weeks
few weeks of WLs
nothing for a week
now a week of WL/Dings

I guess its getting pretty late in the cycle, but id still like an acceptance thrown in there every now and then .

good luck to everyone else

Choosing the Right Law School / UGA decision time?
« on: April 06, 2005, 10:29:03 AM »
Yes, I know this is covered elsewhere, but the posts on UGA tend to be old (and for some reason rarely stay on topic....?)

I applied late January and I've kept up with the online check since then pretty continually. I was waiting for review for a long while, and a few weeks ago I went to committee for review. I know schools are starting to ask for deposits and all, so I was wondering when I could expect something from UGA?
Has anyone had any change in their status recently (maybe in march or april)? if so how long were you being reviewed before you had a decision?

SHould I wait, or should I give them a call to see if I could do anything (talk/interview, submit more...) to help?

sorry, getting anzious, thanks in advance
