Job Search / State Attorney General's office
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:03:43 PM »
So, what are some opinions on choosing between a firm and a state AG's office?  The firm pays much better, the AG's hours are a lot less.  I like both locations and both offices have 50 to 75 attorneys.

Also, does anybody know anything about getting hired permanently after being a summer clerk for an AG's office?  Is it common practice?  What do starting assitant AG's make?  I've been looking all over the internet and it's hard to find descriptions of working for AGs and/or salaries and whatnot.

Incoming 1Ls / All Notre Dame attendees

I've decided on Notre Dame and am looking for a place to live.  Does anybody need a roommate?  Does anyone want to plan on meeting in South Bend to apartment hunt?

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Help me decide
« on: May 14, 2005, 09:43:29 AM »
So here's the deal.  I was just reading the thread that someone started about choosing between money at Notre Dame and no money at UVA.  Some people are advising him to go to ND regardless of the rankings.  Yet when I was discussing ND vs Vanderbilt on here a while back, everybody was like, "Go to Vandy, it's the best school you got into."  And Vanderbilt isn't ranked nearly as high as UVA

Anyway, I'm just polling to find out what people think.  My main concerns are money, quality of education and judicial clerkships following graduation, the more prestigious the better.  When I eventually practice it will be in the midwest.  I'm also interested in living somewhere other than Iowa (where I"ve lived for most of my life) for law school.

Choosing the Right Law School / $$$ from Notre Dame

I got my fellowship offer from Notre Dame today.  $22,500 per year.  Pretty sweet deal.

There's hope for those of us that got pulled off the waitlist.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / WLd at Cornell
« on: May 09, 2005, 02:04:10 PM »
Waitlisted at Cornell.  Sort of surprised, but it's so late that it's not a huge shock.

So, what would everybody do if they were me?

IN: Iowa (full tuition), W&Lee (20k/yr), Vandy (10K/yr), Notre Dame (waiting to hear on money)
WL: Penn, Cornell, Georgetown

How long do I wait on the WLs at Penn/Cornell/Gtown before I just decide between my 4 acceptances?  And where would you guys go?  I like to hear many opinions, all input welcome.

Choosing the Right Law School / Went to Decision at Cornell
« on: May 04, 2005, 11:23:14 AM »
Well, my admissions cycle might be over pretty soon, since I finally went to decision at Cornell.  *fingers crossed*

I also got my big package from Notre Dame in the mail today.  Word of a fellowship is coming later in the week, yay!

Okay, so here is the deal:

Iowa (full tuition)
Wash & Lee (20k/yr)
Vandy (10k/yr)
Notre Dame ($$$ info arriving later in the week)

I am interested, at least right now, in going the route of a judicial clerkship after law school, and obviously I'd like to go for the most prestigious one I can get.  I don't have a preference right now about where I eventually practice, that will depend on how the next few years shape up for me and/or my significant other.  The size of the town I go to law school in is not really a factor; I live in Iowa City right now and love it.  I've visited W&Lee and I do realize how small the town is but that won't bother me.

Where would you guys go?  Is Vanderbilt better than Iowa/W&L/ND by ENOUGH to justify the expense?  What if I get in to Cornell? Does Cornell's ranking justify the expense?  Or if I get pulled off the Gtown or Penn waitlists?

I'm just looking for other people's input because I will have to make a decision in the coming weeks and I like to hear different perspectives, perhaps ones I haven't thought of.

Found out I am in at Notre Dame off the waitlist via email.  That's exciting, I really liked Notre Dame when I visited.

This decision just keeps getting harder and harder.  I also found out today I got $10,000/yr at Vanderbilt.

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Penn Waitlist
« on: April 29, 2005, 08:30:31 AM »
So I got an email from Derek Meeker today saying that I am on the waitlist at Penn.  I am frankly surprised and excited that they didn't flat out ding me.  So I think I'll stay on it and see what happens.

Choosing the Right Law School / Decision at UVA

So I went to decision today at UVA.....what can I expect at this point?  Probably a waitlist, right?  That's what I figured.
