Incoming 1Ls / Is this really worth it?
« on: June 29, 2005, 03:09:48 PM »
I'm leaving a cushy job (85K+ with hardly any responsibilities) to go to law school. It's become clear that new grads should not expect high paying jobs. Is anyone else having second thought about going to law school or starting to come to the realization that they are making more now than they will when they are a lawyer?

I hit the mail jackpot yesterday with mail from 4 schools (when it rains, it pours)! The strange thing about it was that I declined offers from all 4 schools. A couple were log-in information for incoming 1Ls. Another actually had information about paying my bill monthy and they gave me a full scholarship. Anyone else still getting this stuff in the mail?

Incoming 1Ls / Current 1Ls: Is LEEWS worth the price?
« on: April 19, 2005, 01:12:49 PM »
This is a question for current 1Ls AND pre 1Ls who have gone through the LEEWS program. Is the program worth the price and did it realy help increase your comprehension/ability to write legal exams? I've heard conflicting reports on the efficacy of the program and its worth. Some people say that it is indispensable and that you should do it the summer before 1L. Others have said that it is a waste of time. I want to make sure that it is not a waste before I plunk down $150 on it. Thanks!

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Thread for UCONN '08ers
« on: March 31, 2005, 02:18:02 PM »
That and the answer I get back from their financial aid dept regarding merit aid will pretty much determine where I am going this fall. Let me know if you're going too.

Has anyone takenn pictures that they can share? If you have an online album or can send me some via email, I'll PM you my email address.

So I've been accepted to both NJ law schools, both with scholarships. UCONN has accepted me but with no mention of grants. There is a significant difference in the price of the NJ schools versus UCONN mostly due to the first year. I would gain some ground through living expenses since CT is much cheaper than NJ in many categories such as housing cost, commuting cost, and property taxes.

My dilemma is this: Can I really shred my acceptances to SH and RU to go to UCONN when it will cost me much more? In the end, I would probably be looking at around $40K-$60K in debt for UCONN whereas I would have maybe $20K-$40K in debt for wither NJ school.

I like CT much more than NJ and I am not really excited with the idea of riding the train into Newark everyday, but the debt difference is compelling since UCONN is not THAT much of a better school. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone concidering any of these schools and not sure which way to lean?

I finally got my Maryland acceptance yesterday! There was no mention of scholarship information. Has anyone gotten anything from them? Oh, and they included this pamphlet regarding the University Suites. Anyone know anythin about the cost of these?

Choosing the Right Law School / UCONN open house is NOT on 3/12
« on: February 28, 2005, 06:33:17 AM »
I know that some of us have been talking about going to the UCONN open house on March 12. I called up the admissions office to schedule a tour and talk to them about their open house and was told that the information on their website was outdated. The REAL date for the open house is April 9th, which is NOT noted on their calendar. Hope to you see you all there!

I had all but written off Seton Hall when I got an invitation to attend a dinner in NYC to "honor" chancellor scholars. Is anyone else planning on attending this dinner? Do you know what being a chancellor scholar is all about? The letter they sent in the mail regarding the "program" was not very descriptive.

I vaguely remember that they released rankings in March/April in 2004. Does anyone know for sure when the next batch will come out?
