Wait List / Off Waitlist IU-B
« on: July 19, 2005, 06:01:11 PM »
I just received the call today.  Now a new problem.

I was planning to attend IU-Indy.  Because my current lease is up on July 29th, I had to sign a lease, and just moved into that place last weekend.  Now I would have to break my lease and find new housing in Bloomington.

Are the differences between IU-Indy and IU-B significant enough to justify this expense and hassle?  Any thoughts would be appreciated as I have to decide by thursday.

Has anyone requested and been granted an extension on a deposit deadline?  If so, from whom and how long was your extension?

Where should I go next fall? / One week to decide...IU-Indy or Miami?
« on: April 27, 2005, 03:47:00 PM »
Was admitted off the University of Miami waitlist today.  I have until May 5th to decide (no chance of visiting before then).

Have submitted a refundable deposit at IU-Indy.

I am an Indiana resident, so the expenses at IU-Indy would be significantly less.

Is there enough of a difference in quality of the two schools to justify the additional expense?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Great mail day for me.  Got my first acceptance at IU Indy.
I also was placed on American's waitlist where I fully expected a rejection.  Couldnt be happier!

General Off-Topic Board / new perspective
« on: March 21, 2005, 12:55:28 PM »
Recently, law school has become the issue that takes up most of my focus, as it appears to for many people on this board.  I have been disapointed that I have yet to be accepted anywhere, feeling as though I had hit a dead end.  I was convinced that if I didnt go to a top school I would be unlikely to "get ahead."

Sunday, however, I was given a reality check.

I work as a server.  Sunday morning an older couple came in for dinner and was seated in my section.  They had a very "interesting" appearance.  I instantly (shamefully) dreaded taking this table.  In the first five minutes of speaking with these people, however, I came to realize that this couple was illiterate.  As a solution I retrieved training photographs of our menu items from the kitchen (where they are used to train the non-english speaking staff).  They were, although uneducated, extremely grateful and extraordinarily polite.

This experience was a reality check.  Throughout this process, I had become so focused on getting in to the best school possible and upon not being accepted anywhere had become disillusioned.  This experience made me realize that I had already had the opportunity to do something that many people have not, get a college degree at all.  This, hopefully, with help keep this whole process in perspective in the future (at least for me).

General Off-Topic Board / Worse Day Ever
« on: February 09, 2005, 10:02:20 AM »
Lets hear your bad day stories.

I'll start

In order
Found out a friends brother died in a car accident the night before.
Got rejected from the two schools I most wanted to attend
Found out my grandmother had a stroke and they simultaneously found a brain tumor.
Got in a fight with the b/f.

These are my stats.

158 LSAT
3.911 GPA (International business major, econ and European studies minor) HOnors student
Work 30-40hrs a week through undergrad (bartender/server and office staff)
Normal extras (nothing exceptional)
Presenter of research at Indiana Global Trade Facilitators Roundtable Conference
Personal statement concerning interest in international law that stems from a semester living in a arabic neighborhood of london.

Applied to:

Notre Dame (rejected, expected)
Boalt (rejected, also expected)
IU bloomington
IU Indianapolis
U of Florida
U of NC Chapel Hill
American
Ohio State
Washington U
Hastings
Valpo

I am considering if I am not accepted to NC, IU or American that I might retake the LSAT and apply next cycle.

Should I take whatever acceptances I get this cycle and try to transfer if its not where I want, or just reapply next cycle?

General Off-Topic Board / Ball State University
« on: February 04, 2005, 02:35:52 PM »
Just curious

Has anyone ever heard of Ball State University in terms of an undergrad school?  If so what is your general impression of its reputation (Other then the party school issue)

Where should I go next fall? / Do I need more safeties
« on: January 19, 2005, 09:54:28 AM »
I think I have finally finished my applications. I am concerned, however, that too many of my schools are reaches.  Should I add more realistic schools?  My numbers are 158/3.911 in an honors program.  Major international business, minors European studies/econ (I tried to play on working 35hrs a week while taking overload credits). Anyways, here is my list as it stands.

American University
Indiana University Bloomington
Indiana University Indianapolis
University of California Hastings
University of Florida
University of North Carolina
Valparaiso University

Any advice would be appreciated.
