Choosing the Right Law School / Online Status Change @ Memphis
« on: February 13, 2005, 08:21:30 PM »
My online application status check though TIGERweb at Memphis Law changed from "Application Complete" to "Call Admissions Office" on Thursday evening.  So, I called on Friday and the admissions person with whom I spoke said that a decision had been made on my application and I should receive an official letter in a few days.  I politely asked if she could tell me what decision had been made and her response was a not-so-polite, "No, I can't."

WTF!  They have me call THEM to tell me that a decision had been made and that they cannot tell me what decision was made.  If those jokers had me call them and I get rejected, I'll be pissed as hell.  >:(

Has anyone heard any official word from Memphis other than "No I can't" ?

Been complete since mid-Novemeber.  No one on has posted a decision.  Anything?

Choosing the Right Law School / Emails that cause false jubilation
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:15:07 PM »
Received an email from Hofstra today that started:

"I am delighted to inform you ..."

but went on to say:

"... of the recent victory of the Political Asylum Clinic in one of its cases in Immigration Court.

The case concerned an asylum applicant from Chad. Litigation of the case was made extremely difficult by the challenges of obtaining supporting documentation from Chad. As the Chadian government monitors mail and telephone communications, the applicant was too concerned for the safety of his family and colleagues to allow us to contact them. Nevertheless, through extraordinarily creative means, the students were able to document the applicant's case so thoroughly that the Immigration Judge emphasized on the record the exceptionally high quality of their representation, the documents they submitted, and the preparation of the client.

The Immigration Judge concluded the hearing by telling the applicant that the key to his case was his good fortune in getting Hofstra to represent him.

Congratulations to Professor Wren and her students!"

These kinds of emails are just wrong!!!

Law School Admissions / Application Packet w/letter from Columbia
« on: December 07, 2004, 07:37:39 AM »
Someone raised an interesting question in another thread.  I received an appication packet, including application, viewbook, and letter from the dean of admissions requesting me to submit my application, from Columbia.  My gpa is par but LSAT is not where near what I would expect them to look for.

Did anyone else receive this packet?  (I received mine about three weeks ago)

Does anyone think that the schools would actively seek applicants out of the average range on the LSAT to boost diversity?

Was I part of some MASS mailing of packets?

Or, is this just a way to get my $70 to help make up for all the fee waivers they give out?

One of profs, after hearing that I was planning to apply to law school, came to me and said that he would be honored if I would allow him to write an LOR for me.  I jumped on it and got the necessary form to him ASAP.  That's been nearly two months ago and no letter has been posted; an LOR sent much later has already been posted.  I went back to him about four weeks ago and he told me that it was on its way and I should receive word that LSDAS has received it any day.

I'm frustrated and believe that he has no intention to submit his LOR.  This would not be a problem (I already have two on file) except on a couple of my apps I had to provide the names of people who will be submitting LORs on my behalf and named this prof.  :-\

What do you think:

Should I go once again the my prof and ask about the LOR? or

Should I send an addendum to the schools that are looking for an LOR from this prof telling them that the f><ker is not sending it?

What would you do in this circumstance?  Thanx!
