Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / In at UTexas!
« on: March 20, 2005, 05:21:09 PM »
I'm mighty surprised!  I've been out of town for a few days so I just got the letter today, but it was dated March 17.  I'm almost 100% sure I'll be going there next year.

My numbers, for those who are interested:  3.2/167 Texas resident.  Who knows how I got in, maybe it was my (empty) promise to build them a new library/football stadium/on-campus night club.  I sure hope they don't make me to follow through on that...

General Off-Topic Board / What's everybody listening to?

Just curious - what albums/artists are you folks listening to right now?  I feel like I've become stuck in a rut listening to the same old crap, I'm wondering if anyone out there is listening to better stuff...

Choosing the Right Law School / Houston vs. U Texas
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:58:13 PM »
This is totally hypothetical as I'm not even in at UT (and probably won't get in), but if I'm sure about wanting to be in Houston, is UT really any better than UH?  Seems to me that they're both about equal in Houston, the big difference is that UT places all over the nation as well while UH doesn't do as hot outside of Houston.  So if H-Town's where I want to settle down, would it be unwise to pick UH over UT if the opportunity presented itself?

Choosing the Right Law School / Tulane vs. U of Houston - help please!
« on: February 08, 2005, 07:31:02 PM »
So, Tulane and UH are two of my top choices, but I'm having trouble deciding which would be better.  UH looks good because I'm from Houston and wouldn't mind living there for good.  I like TX a lot but at the same time am not like 100% attached.  On the other hand, I think Tulane could possibly open more doors and lead to more opportunities in more places.  However, I don't think I'd like to live in N.O. for the rest of my life.

All this to say - which would you guys pick?  any opinions?

Choosing the Right Law School / Department of Justice?
« on: January 29, 2005, 12:09:47 PM »
Here's a question - how does one pull a DOJ job straight out of school?  I know nothing except that it's apparently mad competitive.  Do you have to come out of HYS and/or know the attorney general to have a chance, or does anyone that does well have a fair shot?  Their website says a person's law school doesn't matter too much, but I just don't think I believe that...

Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Out at Hastings

Got the letter today... Oh well, luckily I've got in at some other places I'd rather go, so it's no big deal.  I guess it's goodbye SF for me!

Choosing the Right Law School / favorite places in the south
« on: December 06, 2004, 09:22:09 AM »
So it seems like lots of people on this board grew up/go to school down south.  It's no secret that this part of the country gets a bad rap most of the time, figured I'd start this thread and see what people had to say.

Let's hear about some of your favorite towns/cities in the south.  Feel free to include TX and Florida if you like.

Politics and Law-Related News / UT Rose Bowl Bound!
« on: December 05, 2004, 09:29:53 PM »
OH YEAH!!! It's about damn time they finally got to a BCS bowl!  I thought they were gonna get snubbed, but everything worked out in the end.  Watch out Michigan - UT's bringing the pain!

PS - Sorry to all the folks in Berkeley about getting screwed out of the BCS.  Damn Utah...

Choosing the Right Law School / Info for prospective Baylor folks
« on: December 02, 2004, 12:50:57 PM »
I went Waco yesterday and checked out the Baylor law school.  It seems like there are a decent number of people on this board considering Baylor, so I thought I'd post my impressions as maybe this could be helpful to some.

I was planning to go there only as a very deep safety and was just hoping that I wouldn't absolutely hate it.  Turns out that it was absolutely great and I totally loved it!  The building itself was amazing.  It's just a couple years old and everything about it is top-notch.  Nice views out across the river there and all.  The administration people were helpful and all the people I talked to were very nice and friendly.  It did seem like the classes were tough and the professors expected a lot, but I didn't see any signs of cutthroat competitiveness I'd heard about.  In fact, everyone I asked about it just laughed and said they don't know how they got such a reputation.  Students seemed smart and well-prepared (Much more so than the kids at UT, I thought - surprisingly!)

I had lots of stereotypes about the school going in, like it was just a bunch of really right-wing southern baptists and kids that weren't good enough for UT, but from what I saw I was very wrong.  All in all, it was great, it definitely moved way up from safety to one of my top schools!

I guess I should have posted this in the reviews and visits section.  Oh well.  Hope this is helpful to some of you.
